Your gamenight beer: So the Phillies didn’t make a deal. Well, I’ll have more about this later. But for now, enjoy a Fuller’s London Pride, an English pale ale. Sure, maybe we don’t have the prospects or the money necessary to do explosive things at the deadline, but we have our beer, and that’s what counts, right? For dinner, have some red curry chicken and basatmi rice.

Go Phillies!

After a disappointing day, it’s gonna be nice to sit back and watch the Phils complete this sweep. I’ll be having some Yuengling with a pulled pork sandwich. I feel Howard going deep tonight, he’s due for one. Phils win 6-4.

  2. Paul

    July 31, 2008 at 5:53 pm

Yes… we still have beer! Amen! Go Phils!

    July 31, 2008 at 6:08 pm

A 15-10 record in July ain’t bad. Go Phils.

ps. Can’t wait til Ryan Howard dominates in St. Louis like he always does.

  4. Josh

    July 31, 2008 at 6:14 pm

I believe it’s spelled “basmati”. Now I’m gonna have to go get some Indian food. Go Phils!

Big win today, with Howard exploding for 2 HR’s. Get the brooms ready !

  6. Griffin

    July 31, 2008 at 6:43 pm

I’m hoping for a big start for Kendrick against a terrible lineup. I have a bad feeling about this one for some reason….

  7. Jamie

    July 31, 2008 at 6:48 pm

NEPA, that sounds tasty. Nothing like a delicious ice cold Yuengling to wash that tasty sandwich down (Pulp Fiction pun intended). Do me a favor and put a little BBQ sauce on that bad boy…I’m going to live vicariously through you tonight!

  8. Jamie

    July 31, 2008 at 6:49 pm

I’m kicking it old school style with a Papa Murphy’s pizza and a case of Blue Moon. The wife can cater to me, as well…

    July 31, 2008 at 6:50 pm

Im smelling a Phillies sweep! Kendrick got robbed of a quality start agains the Braves, lets hope they give him some run support tonight! Chase makes it three games in a row!

  10. NEPA

    July 31, 2008 at 6:53 pm

Haha, already done Jamie. I threw some of Greg “The Bull” Luzinski’s BBQ sauce on it in celebration of the Phils little win streak.

    July 31, 2008 at 6:54 pm

Corona in the fridge.. and some NY strip steaks ….might as well throw them on the grill and make a night of it..

    Shane Victorino back-to-back Ashburn Awards!

Is that sauce any good?? Is the wild thing mitch williams salsa any good?

Im a SWEET BABY RAYS BBQ guy now…stuff is amazing

  13. NEPA

    July 31, 2008 at 7:02 pm

haha, I put sweet baby ray’s on my other pork BBQ. Both sauces are good, but ray’s is better.

Haha, I love how we are talking about food here and barely the game…GO PHILLIES!!! METS SUCK!!!

    July 31, 2008 at 7:05 pm

we made make one good move today… not going after arthur rhodes and letting the marlins pick him up. great move.

  16. NEPA

    July 31, 2008 at 7:06 pm

Haha, good point VK. But food and beer is a part of the entire baseball watching experience. They go hand in hand. The fact that I pounded the food a solid hour before the first pitch is beside the point.

  17. danny

    July 31, 2008 at 7:18 pm

See, I knew we shoulda traded Burrell for Manny.

No way Manny makes an out! HAHAHAHA

  18. Jamie

    July 31, 2008 at 7:26 pm

NEPA, well done my friend. I tried Ray’s on some chicken last week for the first time and must say it’s pretty darn good stuff.

  19. NEPA

    July 31, 2008 at 7:29 pm

Nice, Werth. That ball was ripped.

  20. Jamie

    July 31, 2008 at 7:31 pm

Man, Ruiz should play against the Nats every day.

  21. Paul

    July 31, 2008 at 7:31 pm

Geez, another hit for Ruiz! What’s going on?!

  22. danny

    July 31, 2008 at 7:32 pm

    Ruiz: Man or T-1000?

  23. NEPA

    July 31, 2008 at 7:32 pm

    It’s called hell freezing over.

  24. danny

    July 31, 2008 at 7:33 pm

I guess the “Hunt for .200” starring Carlos Ruiz is officially out of production. Damn..

  25. Jamie

    July 31, 2008 at 7:34 pm

See Geoff, they tried to do a 3 team deal, but couldn’t get the third team to go for it. We would have received a starter.

  26. christopher

    July 31, 2008 at 7:34 pm

great bunt by kendrick to set up the rbi for jroll. good start to the game.

  27. Griffin

    July 31, 2008 at 7:38 pm

oh man, I wish we could play this team everyday.

The Nats announcers are THE worst in all of baseball. For those of us who have to watch the games on the computer, it’s sheer torture to listen to them.
What are the odds that the worst team in baseball has the worst announcers in baseball?

  28. Pat

    July 31, 2008 at 7:40 pm

Griffin, if you think that’s bad, you should have heard HK saying Vic made it to third… is this guy going senile or something?

  29. TJ

    July 31, 2008 at 7:40 pm

I like the way this has started, small ball wins games!

  30. danny

    July 31, 2008 at 7:42 pm

Griffin, I especially enjoy Sutton’s little insights that we know he thinks are special. Doesn’t the whole Nats broadcast seem like a high school production?

  31. Jamie

    July 31, 2008 at 7:43 pm

Nice start. KK needs to keep the ball down and the offense needs to keep rakin’.

  32. Joe

    July 31, 2008 at 7:44 pm

  33. Paul

    July 31, 2008 at 7:44 pm

I actually don’t think the Nats guys are bad. I’d much rather listen to them than some other teams… the Astros come to mind as a team with brutal announcers.

  34. Jamie

    July 31, 2008 at 7:46 pm

danny, I’m listening to the game on the computer. I’m curious to listen to the Nats announcers – are you listening on radio or TV? I want to get the full experience.

  35. TJ

    July 31, 2008 at 7:48 pm

That isnt a half bad article by Glanville. I liked him as a player too

  36. TJ

    July 31, 2008 at 7:50 pm

How’d you stumble upon this? NY Times? Mets Fan. Kidding.

  37. Griffin

    July 31, 2008 at 7:50 pm

That run was Bruntlett’s fault, he should’ve been on the bag and they would’ve nailed that runner on third. What a crap run that was.

  38. Rob Cowie

    July 31, 2008 at 7:51 pm

Harry Kalas can say that Chuck Klein hit a triple in today’s game, I wouldn’t care. His greatness makes him immune to any gripes on accuracy.

  39. Griffin

    July 31, 2008 at 7:53 pm

The biggest “homer” announcers are the White Sox by far. With Hawk Harrelson and company. They’re at least entertaining unlike…
Sutton, who got dumped by the Braves and now is stuck doing the crappy Nats. Their play by play guy is just terrible.

  40. Jamie

    July 31, 2008 at 7:56 pm

I absoltely hate Hawk Harrelson and that faggy “YEEEESSSS” bullshit he does after home runs. Absolutely makes me cringe. May the fleas of a thousand camels infest his privates.

  41. Griffin

    July 31, 2008 at 8:05 pm

    “put it on the booooooooard….YES!”

yeah, it’s a little over the top. They openly root for the Sox. “Come on big Jim” when Thome is up.

  42. Jamie

    July 31, 2008 at 8:06 pm

Is it just me, or is KK throwing way too many pitches tonight? At this pace, he’ll be lucky to get through 6.

  43. Rob

    July 31, 2008 at 8:11 pm

An EYE FOR AN EYE. Hit the Nats best player on the hand… good job KK.

Anyone see how deathly afraid Lannan is everytime Flores sets up inside on Utley? He missed his inside spot on Utley at least 3 times in a row and all of em were juuuuust a bit outside (if you know what I’m sayin).

  44. Griffin

    July 31, 2008 at 8:12 pm

typical Kendrick. We need to score at least 6 or 7 tonight.

  45. NEPA

    July 31, 2008 at 8:17 pm

Well that was a freebie. Weird play.

  46. Griffin

    July 31, 2008 at 8:17 pm

right now the Nats announcers are interviewing Ryan Langerhans dad. How’d they book that spot, he’s impossible to get!!
The best part about the interview is that you can’t hear Langerhans’s dad at all. You just hear the announcers verbally fellate his son and then dead silence for 20 seconds.

    High comedy

  47. Griffin

    July 31, 2008 at 8:18 pm

  48. Jamie

    July 31, 2008 at 8:18 pm

There’s that fucking bum J-Roll hitting a home run again. Prick. Get him off the roster!

  49. Gary B

    July 31, 2008 at 8:18 pm

Rollins baby. This is what we need, everybodys swinging the bat! Oh yeah!

  50. TJ

    July 31, 2008 at 8:18 pm

    Jimmy Rollins… home run? Yes.

  51. Jamie

    July 31, 2008 at 8:21 pm

    Put it on the board…..YEEESSS!!

  52. danny

    July 31, 2008 at 8:21 pm

    Griffin- THIS IS GREAT…

  53. Griffin

    July 31, 2008 at 8:21 pm

The Nats are playing some high quality fundamental baseball right now

  54. Brian Michael

    July 31, 2008 at 8:21 pm

This is embarassing for the Nationals. They look lost out there.

  55. NEPA

    July 31, 2008 at 8:22 pm

Wow, that was a nasty pitch to Utley.

  56. Griffin

    July 31, 2008 at 8:22 pm

danny, they brought their A game tonight. enjoy.

  57. danny

    July 31, 2008 at 8:22 pm

Utley looks mortified by this guy

  58. Griffin

    July 31, 2008 at 8:26 pm

    damn Victorino, that was dumb

  59. Griffin

    July 31, 2008 at 8:35 pm

“when you make a baserunning mistake when you have the lead, it almost always comes back to bite you” -clueless Nats announcer

  60. Jamie

    July 31, 2008 at 8:36 pm

    Wow, that is brilliant.

  61. Rick

    July 31, 2008 at 8:45 pm

Griffin – That’s hilarious! I heard (or didn’t hear) the same thing with John Langerhans (or however the hell you spell it).

My gf and I were making fun of this high school production of a channel they call MASN. Talk about a bunch of inept idiots. I wander if they could actually hear him replying or if they were just playing along with it.

Also, the White Sox announcers are THE WORST! I can’t stand those jack@sses. They are even worse than these boneheads.

    Eye for an eye, agreed…

  62. CZ

    July 31, 2008 at 8:46 pm

Eaton gave up 5 hits, 4 runs in 3.2 innings for CLASS A LAKEWOOD…wow…

  63. Griffin

    July 31, 2008 at 8:48 pm

“games that start one way often turn into something totally opposite”

  64. CZ

    July 31, 2008 at 8:48 pm

To add to that his first two outs were on a line drive and a caught stealing…yikes

  65. Rick

    July 31, 2008 at 8:48 pm

The worst thing about the MASN broadcast is when that woman comes on and talks. Her microphone volume is turned up way louder than the announcers and it makes the speakers crackle. Man she’s a dog.

  66. Jamie

    July 31, 2008 at 8:50 pm

Well, color me surprised. Eaton blows billy goats.

  67. Brian Michael

    July 31, 2008 at 8:51 pm

The Phils ended 2 consecutive innings on the basepaths. Luckily the Nats are giving them runners right back.

  68. Griffin

    July 31, 2008 at 8:54 pm

Rick, you’re 100% right, her volume is way up, the whole thing is just sheer comedy. It’s just embarassing. Good times.

  69. CZ

    July 31, 2008 at 8:56 pm

I’d put these guys and Mark Grace (ARZ) and his fellow buffoon into my announcer team Hall Of Shame…GAS…

  70. NEPA

    July 31, 2008 at 8:57 pm

    Everybody hits.

  71. Rick

    July 31, 2008 at 8:58 pm

  72. CZ

    July 31, 2008 at 9:03 pm

This is clutch hitting right now

  73. NEPA

    July 31, 2008 at 9:04 pm

    God the nationals blow.

  74. Griffin

    July 31, 2008 at 9:04 pm

    5 2-out hits in a row, sweet!

  75. Jamie

    July 31, 2008 at 9:06 pm

Man, the offense seems to have gotten out of its slump. J-Roll is hitting, Vic is getting on and in, Utley hitting HR’s again, Howard, Burrell, and even Ruiz is getting some knocks. Pitching has also been pretty decent – let’s keep it up!

  76. Chase Mutley

    July 31, 2008 at 9:13 pm

SF: “Next Thursday is Ladies Night. Come out and get your picture taken with Larry Anderson.”

    LA: “Huh?”

  77. Griffin

    July 31, 2008 at 9:26 pm

nice job by Kendrick, facing a minor league team. Still, props to Kyle

  78. NEPA

    July 31, 2008 at 9:30 pm

Nice job by Condrey moppin up, doing his job well.

  79. Paul

    July 31, 2008 at 9:31 pm

The Nats sure are bad. Can the Phils play them a dozen more times please?

  80. Jamie

    July 31, 2008 at 9:32 pm

Paul, you’ll get your wish. We play them six or nine more times this year…I forget how many.

  81. Greg V.

    July 31, 2008 at 9:32 pm

I know its the Nats, but the Phils sure look good too! Hope we can capitalize on this!

  82. Griffin

    July 31, 2008 at 9:34 pm

we play them 9 more times, 6 times at home including the last 3 games of the year (again)!

  83. Jamie

    July 31, 2008 at 9:36 pm

We play them nine more times, and we also play the Jason Bay-less Pirates six times and the Hudson and Texiera-less Braves six times. Good stuff, all the way around.

  84. Jamie

    July 31, 2008 at 9:38 pm

I nominate J-Roll for the Ashburn tonight. RBI in the 2nd, and the 2 run jack in the 4th to put it out of reach…What do you all think?

  85. Griffin

    July 31, 2008 at 9:40 pm

yeah, we have 5 against the mets, 9 against the marlins (6 at home), 8 against manny’s dodgers, 4 in chicago and 4 at home against milwaukee and the next 3 in st. louis. Those are our remaining games against above .500 teams

  86. Rick

    July 31, 2008 at 9:40 pm

Ouch! They just intentionally hit Chase! It sure seemed like it anyway. Both sides warned.

  87. Griffin

    July 31, 2008 at 9:40 pm

yeah, I’d go with J-Roll for the Ashburn tonight

  88. Fran

    July 31, 2008 at 9:44 pm

idk Shane got on base another 4 times tonight. Hes on fire

  89. Jamie

    July 31, 2008 at 9:46 pm

We have a pretty favorable schedule, although we have a few tough series stretched out. The Mets have an easy August, but their September ends ugly with 4 against the Cubs and 3 against Florida, but all are at home. Florida has a tough August and a so-so September.

  90. Griffin

    July 31, 2008 at 9:48 pm

Burrell almost took that guy’s head off with that liner

poor Pat is getting replaced defensively by Geoff Jenkins for God’s sakes. The only time he plays a complete game is if it’s a Phillies walk-off

  93. Rick

    July 31, 2008 at 10:00 pm

If I were Pat I’d be pissed at Shane for taking a potential RBI away from me. There was no reason for him to try to steal third. I didn’t get that at all!

  94. Jamie

    July 31, 2008 at 10:00 pm

I love it! Listen to what the bloggers are saying on Metsblog…I had to stop in to see if they were talking about the Phils at all..

So let me get this straight, no trade for the Mets. So our season hinges on:

    1) Maine’s shoulder;

    2) Pedro’s groin;

    3) Church’s head;

    4) Fernando Tatis’s ability not to realize he’s Fernando Tatis;

    5) The bullpen not continuing to implode every other day.

Great! I’m looking forward to the rest of the season and hoping they play well, so I don’t have to state how unbelievably stupid Omar is.

  95. Paul

    July 31, 2008 at 10:02 pm

Seanez!!! Throw strikes!!! I think he may need to go away…

Can’t believe they had to bring Durbin in.

  96. PhillyGirlinMichigan

    July 31, 2008 at 10:10 pm

Every-day Chad. Charie’s doing a great job wearing down one of our best pitchers. Was that really necessary to put him in?

  97. TwoTonsOfIrony

    July 31, 2008 at 10:12 pm

I don’t mind Charlie bringing in Durbin. Sends a message to Seanez that he was put in to get guys out and he wasn’t doing it and that doesn’t fly. Besides it’ll takes Durbin like 4 pitches, so it isn’t a huge drain.

  98. Jamie

    July 31, 2008 at 10:12 pm

Wearing Durbin down? 5 pitches for 1 out? Not sure about that one.

  99. philsphan

    July 31, 2008 at 10:39 pm

In that situation bringing in Durbin was the right move, Chad only made 5 pitches and just came in to make one out. Plus Durbin is now more of a set-up guy who can pitch multiple innings now that Happ was brought up to be the long man. Seanez had been a good middle reliever for the Phillies this year, but he has started to tired and I don’t know how much longer he will be in the ML. I think he will retire after this season.

  100. Geoff

haha good one Jamie. You just made me lol. I missed this game, but I was checking on my cell phone to see what was going on here and there. GO PHILS!

btw Geoff, yes we swept the Nats, and in my opinion it’s a HUGE deal. The Nats usually play the Phillies like they’re the 01 Mariners or some shit. It’s unreal how good they play against us for being as shitty as they are.

  103. Phil

    August 1, 2008 at 12:05 am

I’m catching up on this thread, and I’m reading it backwards for some reason. Anyway, Jamie, that’s nice we play a Bay/Nady less Pirates and all, but now we have 8 against a Mannyful Dodgers. haha

  104. PAT G

    August 1, 2008 at 1:35 am

I am not happy. The Phils had a chance to win this year and possibly next if they traded the future for now. some of the names they could of had tier.. Man Ram, Holliday, CBat, AJBurnett, 2nd tier… fuentes, mahay, etc..

its obvious that PG thinks that having corrasco as a #2 pitcher and/or marson as a catcher is more important then the world series…. i can understand where they are coming from.. to make money all they need to do is stay competitive every year.

  105. Eb

    August 1, 2008 at 9:04 am

the Phils need to release Seanez. Charlie didnt even pat in on the ass as he left the mound, that means Good Time is pissed at you
