Phillies Back In Action Vs. Yankees

Carlos Carrasco will make his final audition for the big-league club today as the Phillies meet the Yankees. Game time is 1:05 p.m.

At this point Carrasco should be heading back to Lehigh Valley; he’ll need another bunch of outings to hone his repertoire. Meanwhile, the starters should be in place today as they gear up for the season opener. Joba Chamberlain starts for the Yankees (he faced the Phils 10 days ago in Tampa).

Today’s lineup goes for the 3 lefties, with Werth batting 6.

Stairs (DH), Feliz and Paulino round it out.

  2. Manny

    March 26, 2009 at 12:56 pm

I really hope Paulino gets 3 HRs and 4RBIs….

  5. Jim

    March 26, 2009 at 1:05 pm

Manny- i see what your saying but i hope that with 3 hrs he gets more than 4 rbis or that means the team has trouble getting guys on base

i gave up and went to audio only

at least its the phils announcers

  11. Griffin

    March 26, 2009 at 1:18 pm

Sarah, I’m watching the game on YES on TV and the sounds is all screwed up. It’s all the Yankees fault!

  12. Manny

    March 26, 2009 at 1:18 pm

Jim: haha you’re right… I thought about that the minute after I posted my comment

  13. Sarah

    March 26, 2009 at 1:19 pm

Also wish that Carrasco would settle down! How are we going to get any innings out of him today?

  14. Justin

    March 26, 2009 at 1:21 pm

What a great way for Carrasco to take himself out of the running for the 5th starter spot. 2 run shot for Hideki Matsui, in his contract year. 2-0 Spankees.

  15. Phan in TN

    March 26, 2009 at 1:22 pm

I hope he can go at least an inning or two with no ERA’s

  20. Manny

    March 26, 2009 at 1:32 pm

I really wanna see Feliz, Victorino and Coste get many more ABs in what’s left of ST.

  21. Justin

    March 26, 2009 at 1:33 pm

Victorino’s different than Feliz and Coste who have been hurt most of ST, he’s been playing so i’m not concerned with Victorino’s play at all since he’s been playing in the WBC which has been more competitive so i think he’s ready and waiting for the season to start.

  22. Chuck P

    March 26, 2009 at 1:34 pm

FYI… the is offering a free-trial of their premium MLB TV today. I’m watching the game for free.

  23. Chuck P

    March 26, 2009 at 1:34 pm

    Carrasco is filthy.

  24. Fuhs

    March 26, 2009 at 1:35 pm

Of all the days to watch the game for free. I guess the audio is too expensive to give away

  25. Phan in TN

    March 26, 2009 at 1:37 pm

listening on audio only and the voice of Chris Wheeler is selling me gigantic slices of delicious pizza for only $4.00

  26. Chuck P

    March 26, 2009 at 1:37 pm

Charlie is filthy, too… but in a sloppy way.

  27. Chuck P

    March 26, 2009 at 1:38 pm

I’m not having any problems with the audio…

  28. Manny

    March 26, 2009 at 1:43 pm

Justin: I think Vic needs to play more though in what’s left of ST… he wasn’t a regular player for Team USA cause he had to split time out there… remember Davey Johnson putting Longoria in for Shane’s AB in the last game? Agh… I don’t think Shane got half the playing time Jimmy did.

  29. Manny

    March 26, 2009 at 1:46 pm

    Chuck thank’s for the FYI

… the second the video starts streaming, I see Ryan Howard unable to get a ground ball by first base…

The new flash player looks very good for MLB TV

i hope just regular subscribers can use it this season…

  31. Don M

    March 26, 2009 at 2:02 pm

Just started reading down… when we got Slaughtered by the Yankees 10 days ago.. wasn’t Cy Young, aka Kyle Kendrick the one on the hill for us though?

  32. Phan in TN

    March 26, 2009 at 2:03 pm

i thought we beat the Yanks the last time we played them.

  33. Jason B.

    March 26, 2009 at 2:05 pm

Oooh, Carassaco gave up a pitch that I could’ve knocked out. Audio is bad, picture quality is awesome…

    March 26, 2009 at 2:06 pm

Anyone else want the Yankeeography? Just asking.

  35. Manny

Ooooh nice… RyHo’s bomb was an opposite field HR

  36. Phan in TN

    March 26, 2009 at 2:10 pm

I am just loving this new Flash Player..the Red color just jumps out at you.

I had to watch almost all the games on MLB TV last year so I really appreciate the quality of this new stuff.

  37. Justin

    March 26, 2009 at 2:13 pm

Manny: I didn’t get to see many of the games due to work schedule but I agree he didn’t get the PT he needs for ST but being the starter i don’t have many worries that he isn’t ready for the regular season, J-Roll got more ABs and playing time because his bat was too good not to be in the lineup and please find me an argument that someone would rather Jeter playing ss over J-Roll right now. He, right now, is far and away a better fielding ss than Jeter and should have started at Short in their last game against japan.

  38. Jason B.

    March 26, 2009 at 2:13 pm

When I would go away for buisness, MLBtv saved my life… It really looks good, but, I’m not traveling anymore, so I won’t need it… wish it looked this good last year.

  39. Jason B.

    March 26, 2009 at 2:15 pm

Jeter missed a couple plays up the middle that Rollins makes with his eyes closed. That however was one of many mistakes Davey Johnson made in the game against Japan.

feel bad for Carasco since he has some good pitches

  42. Jason B.

    March 26, 2009 at 2:17 pm

And Victorino could’ve had him at the plate if Paulino was chock full o sucks.

watch out jamie, carrasco is breathing down your neck!

  45. Chuck P

    March 26, 2009 at 2:28 pm

Carrasco pitched well. He missed his spot a couple of times, had a couple of bloop hits fall in but he managed only 1 BB and 4 k’s…. overall, he looks good. A little more time in AAA will help.

They have Ibanez batting fifth against the RH Joba Chamberlain. That’s kind of what I expected.

  46. Manny

    March 26, 2009 at 2:29 pm

It’s gonna be interesting now to see all the lefties [in a row] in our lineup deal with a lefty pitcher from the Yankees

  47. Justin

    March 26, 2009 at 2:29 pm

Yea i read that article on ESPN about all of Davey Johnson’s mistakes and he is an idiot and a bad manager but in all honesty theres nothing that can be done about it. There’s going to be fired managers taking that job for awhile since you can’t expect a current manager to leave his managerial duties during spring training to coach a team USA team. The NBA has the advantage there in that the season or pre season hasn’t even started when they play in those type of games Olympics or Olympic Qualifying games.

  48. Jason B.

    March 26, 2009 at 2:33 pm

Justin, I completely agree with you, you really can’t pull another skipper from his team… But some moves were no brainers, exam… Victorino switch hitter against a rightie. Vic would bat from the left side, naturally. Vic was in the on deck circle. Instead, he changes his mind and puts right hand hitting Longoria out there and he strikes out looking very bad doing it. That was a no brainer, and he botched it big time… I guess there is a reason Davey is jobless.

  49. Georgie

    March 26, 2009 at 2:40 pm

That shirtless guy sitting behind homeplate should at the very least be forced to put on a bra.

  50. Brett

    March 26, 2009 at 2:49 pm

Paulino just watched a baserunner steal second, without the thought of trying to throw him out ever crossing his mind. I hope to God we have another year of Coste.

    March 26, 2009 at 2:54 pm

  53. Georgie

Sorry Phan, I have a bad habit of looking at the crowd, and it’s seldom a pretty view.

  54. Jason B.

    March 26, 2009 at 3:15 pm

Ugh. That dude is disgusting… worst of all, no tan lines. He does that often I guess. He also probably wears a banana hammock while sun bathing on the beach. No respect for others around him.

  55. Justin

    March 26, 2009 at 3:20 pm

    Must be from NY

  56. Jason B.

    March 26, 2009 at 3:22 pm

Definatly a New Yorker… why do they always ruin a perfectly fine baseball game?

  57. CT

    March 26, 2009 at 3:24 pm

Eyre’s not looking good against all these righties

  58. Georgie

    March 26, 2009 at 3:27 pm

Eyre has Kendrickitis today, putting them right down the middle of the plate.

  59. CT

    March 26, 2009 at 3:29 pm

seems to me that they’re testing Eyre’s ability to get a string of righties out. obviously, he’s best suited as a LOOGY. right here is evidence that he’s no JC Romero. we might need that second lefty afterall…

  60. Geoff

    March 26, 2009 at 3:39 pm

Agreed CT…thats why you need TWO bullpen lefties, so when one is in a slump you can go with the one who has the hot hand….

  61. John Fire

    March 26, 2009 at 4:19 pm

Hey, did anyone notice that Howard completed the Howard today? Homer? Check. Strikeout? Check. Error? You betcha!

  65. NJ

    March 26, 2009 at 4:47 pm

Well Ronny Paulino looks like he’s put himself on Chris Coste’s Xmas card list, what a squandered opportunity.

Amazing to think one if not both Majewski and Koplove might not make the cut.

  66. CT

    March 26, 2009 at 4:59 pm

In response to that post on, I posted this:

“Hamels could have had somewhere around a 23-5 record in 2008 if it wasn’t for poor run support.

Out of the 14 games that he started where the Phils lost, he gave up 3 ER or less in 9 of them. AND he actually only gave up more than 4 ER in two losses last season!

Wins/Losses really don’t mean much when you’re measuring a pitchers worth; it really comes down to how good he is at holding the opposing team’s runs down so his own team has a chance to score and win. Read the game logs before you talk trash.”

  67. gabriel

    March 26, 2009 at 5:28 pm

appreciate the help… that jerkoff now can begin to understand the error of his ways…

  68. Bruce

    March 26, 2009 at 6:04 pm

The line for Carrasco: four innings allowing FOUR runs and SIX hits including TWO bombs (HRs).

Don’t worry; Tim said it’s a ” no-brainer” that he will be in the Phillies’ rotation by mid-summer. ūüėČ

  69. Jim

    March 26, 2009 at 7:04 pm

come on tim, when are we gonna see #1, ive waited 3 months for this, ,even though i know who it is

  70. Tim Malcolm

    March 26, 2009 at 8:14 pm

    WHATVER you SAY it’s STILL a “no-brainer.”
