Lidge Day-To-Day With Knee Inflammation

Brad Lidge, unavailable in Monday’s win over the Nationals, has inflammation in his knee and is day-to-day, according to manager Charlie Manuel.

More, from Scott Lauber:

Our man, Geoff Mosher, was in the Phillies’ clubhouse tonight when Lidge admitted he got a cortisone shot last week. If Lidge is having knee trouble, that would explain his mechanical problems and his flawed control. Few saves have been easy for Lidge lately. On Saturday night, he loaded the bases before white-knuckling his way to a 34-pitch save.

Oh-oh… so this didn’t happened overnite. Aside from your speculation about possible “mechanical problems” due to a lingering knee injury, it is a real concern however slight the injury may be. Let’s hope with proper medication and rest, it won’t linger into the season. I have this feeling that a 15 day DL is a possibility if his knee doesn’t respond to precautionary measures. After all, pitchers do put a great deal of stress on the knee(s) in their delivery of pitches.

Couple this with not throwing to Ruiz(meaning he can’t throw the slider in the dirt if there are men on base) is why Lidge is pitching so poorly.

Before the season started, I expected that at some point this season, Lidge would be unavailable and Madson would close a good amount of games… I’m fine with Madson closing games, but we really need Lidge in the long haul.
