2010 Gameday

Gameday: Phillies (26-20) at Marlins (24-24)

Philadelphia Phillies (26-19) at Florida Marlins (24-24)

Kyle Kendrick (2-2, 5.66 ERA) at Chris Volstad (3-5, 4.31 ERA)

Time: 7:10, Sun Life Stadium
Weather: Scattered Storms, 78
TV: Comcast SportsNet
Twitter: @philliesnation

UPDATE: The game will start late because of inclement weather. They have an estimated start time of 7:35.

Well, what can you say. The Phillies are futile right now when it comes to their offense. It’s been three games, 27 innings, since the Phils have scored a run.  It’s been since Sunday for God’s sake!

On to the pitching. Cole Hamels was very good yesterday, now it’s Kyle Kendrick’s turn. He’s just 2-2 on the year with an ERA in the fives, so they’re best isn’t going.  As it stands, he’ll need to do all he can on a muggy evening on South Florida to keep his team in the game.  KK has uninspiring numbers against the Fish in his career. He’s 2-2 with an ERA above six.  Let’s hope he finds a way this evening.

Chris Volstad has some pretty good numbers against the Phils (2-2, 3.21 ERA in 6 starts). The last thing the Phils need is another hot pitcher getting to them.  Volstad has been so-so this year, but fares better against lefties than righties, somehow. Lefties hit just .225 against him, righties go .258. The 6’8″ righty has shown signs of brilliance, but can also be had.  Let’s see if the Phils can smack him around this evening.

Tonight’s Lineup: Victorino CF, Polanco 3B, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Werth RF, Ibanez LF, Ruiz C, Valdez SS, Hamels P

    WTF happened to Greg Dobbs?

  18. Art

    May 28, 2010 at 8:06 pm

When is that idiot Manuel going to learn to bunt runners over with no outs. He always plays against the odds. He is a total idiot and deserves to be fired.

  19. Sam

    May 28, 2010 at 8:07 pm

I can see dobbs getting released reallll soon

    May 28, 2010 at 8:14 pm

OK let’s get a Vegas line for the next time the Phils score a run:
    tonight: 4-1
    this weekend: 3-1
    next week: 3-2
    any takers?

  23. ChuckS

    May 28, 2010 at 8:17 pm

tonight, definitely, in the third inning

  24. Mulvi

    May 28, 2010 at 8:18 pm

How come teams are lazy in thinking just adding “Los” gives it the Latino support? The least they could do is translate their team name in Spanish instead of just adding the Spanish word for “the” on their jerseys

  25. Phillies Phever Blog

    May 28, 2010 at 8:20 pm

Teejvee posts on blogs too??? Guy is a troll on the Phillies message board. KK looks good but we need to hit!!

  26. Ace Ho

    May 28, 2010 at 8:21 pm

Maybe Phillies need to get a better pair of binoculars.
so they can get some tips from marlins pitchers and hit better 🙂

  27. ChuckS

    May 28, 2010 at 8:24 pm

Valdez in the two hole can’t be a good sign

  28. Tracey

    May 28, 2010 at 8:25 pm

Chuck: I hope you were right about the 3rd inning…

  29. Jeff

    May 28, 2010 at 8:25 pm

I understand we need a change but Valdez batting 2. Dobbs should not be in the lineup. The only way these guys are going to hit is keep at it. Just dont understand Manuel.

  30. Tracey

    May 28, 2010 at 8:27 pm

    Rats. Maybe the 4th.

  34. teejvee

    May 28, 2010 at 8:30 pm

    QU-

Odds are good on scoring tonight. The choking will continue but
they will behind big by the 6th inning with KK going.
Then, they might pick up some garbage off a scrub bullpen guy.
Now, if Kendrick keeps it close-they won’t score tonigh.

Then tomorrow is out as well, Johnson. Forget it.

  35. QU Sam

    May 28, 2010 at 8:34 pm

    ChuckS, you lose.

  36. QU Sam

    May 28, 2010 at 8:36 pm

Don’t get me wrong. I’m P****ed off the Phils aren’t scoring. It’s like I don’t need to watch them bat, since I know what the result will be anyway. It’s a matter of how many they lose by.

  37. Jeff

    May 28, 2010 at 8:36 pm

    May 28, 2010 at 9:18 pm

Well what do you know…you steal a base, get a single and score a run. That’s called manufacturing a run…it does work.

  90. Tracey

    May 28, 2010 at 9:19 pm

Rats. But we’ve tied it up!

  91. Andrew from Waldorf

finally phillies can stop 5 game losing streak 🙂

  106. Tracey

    May 28, 2010 at 10:07 pm

Yeah, total waste, all he did tonight was score the first run and drive in the second. But what have you done for us since the 5th inning?

  107. MikeB.

    May 28, 2010 at 10:10 pm

Kansas City scored 9 runs off of 12 hits in three innings tonight off of Boston knuckle-baller Tim Wakefield and lead Boston 12-5 late in that game. Just an interesting bit of info in regards to the 44 year old pitcher who gave the Phillies hitters so much troubler last Sunday.

  108. ChuckS

    May 28, 2010 at 10:11 pm

the problem with Ryan is that he isn’t hitting with power, singles are okay, but he needs to start crushing the ball to remind us why hes worth 125 mil

  109. Tracey

    May 28, 2010 at 10:15 pm

He’s hitting .295. And the power will come.
