Reading Phillies Report

Here is a report on the Reading Phillies from David Hoppman.

Before I get into the details that I’m sure you all want to know about your Phillies prospects I want to tell you a little about myself. My name is David Hoppman, and I am soon to be 35 years old. I’m blind since birth. I love baseball especially Phillies baseball, and when we won it all in 2008 it was the most amazing thing I ever experienced in my life. I’ve been following the Reading Phillies since 1987. Then I became a season ticket holder since 1989. And now to get down to business…

The reading Phillies swept a doubleheader in Akron by scores of 5-1, and 4-3. The second game went extra innings. In the minors, doubleheaders are seven innings in length unless it is a split doubleheader which is nine innings.

In game one, Yohan Flande, a Jamie Moyer type lefty got the start and went the distance giving up one run. Former big leaguer Kevin Mahar was the hitting star along with Tagg Bozied. Quintin Berry was a terror on the bases all night long. I really think he would be a solid fourth or fifth outfielder. He has incredible speed. When Berry, Brown and Gillies are in the same outfield not much gets by.

In game two, Freddy Galvis made an outstanding play deep in the hole at short. His glove isn’t the question getting consistency out of his bat is. Quintin Berry stole four bases in this game. Domonic Brown knocked in two runs including the game winner on a sac fly. Jason Anderson got the spot start for the original spot starter Chance Chapman. Michael Schwimer pitched great in two innings of relief and got the win. However, Sergio Escalona blew the save taking away a possible win from former Phillie John Ennis. Reading Plays in Akron again tonight. Drew Naylor gets the start and is going for his fourth win.
