The losing ways continue.  With last night’s 8-3 loss to the Yankees, the Phillies dropped to 8-17 in their last 25 games.  Not only is that the second worst record in the majors, but they’ve only averaged 2.6 runs per game.

The offense has been pathetic, but the Phillies are still more than capable of putting up crooked numbers, especially at Yankee Stadium.  Just 314 down the right field line, the Phillies left-handed power bats could use a short-porch, like Mark Teixeria’s homer last night.

The Phillies will have to get to A.J Burnett in order to for them to do anything offensively.  Burnett is 5-8 with a 4.75 ERA in his career against the Phillies.  In the 2009 World Series, he went 1-1; he was terrific in his 3-1 victory, but was lit up in his 8-6 loss.

Even if the Phillies can put up big numbers, Jamie Moyer will have to keep the Yankees’ bats under wraps.  Moyer is coming off a start in which he could not get an out in the second inning.   Against the Yankees, Moyer is 4-3 with a 5.37 ERA in his career.

    For phils fans in NYC, NY1’s sports show has a pretty good interview with Doug Glanville. I mixed the audio and got to mic him up. Nice guy. Strangely, I was more nervous meeting Glanville than I was meeting Darryl Strawberry two years ago.

    I would never make that trade. I love werth. He will start to hit. Yes in the perfect world I would love Lee and Doc. Not possible. I love Doc. The mets have nothing in there farm.     To be honest though the team that should be feared is the Nats, they are one pitcher, and a bat away from taking the division, then they’ll be no more Mets, or Phillies winning division titles, just stras, and the boys, so I prefer the rivalry to continue, and both of our teams come out and continue to compete with each other, so I suggest for the phills to try and steal Ryan Zimmerman from that team, and will take Oswalt, or maybe Lee.

    nats are more than 1 pitcher and 1 bat away from winning 90 to 95 games. Everybody relax , can we see them finish a season over 500 ,then maybe make the playoffs before we start acting like theyre the 27 yankees. They have some young talent but i want to see some
    CONSISTENT results over a few years before i get scared. Everyone thinks 1 pitcher gonna make them unbeatable. The yankees field an allstar team every year and before last year you have to go back to 2000 for the previous championship. You dont go from the worst franchise in baseball history to one of the best because of 1 pitcher no matter how good he is.

    Are you serious? Hamels has been solid since the beginning of May minus the one Braves start. no more than 3 innings a game. If this team was hitting he would have almost 10 wins. If you really call yourself a fan than you would know that. Stop being the pessimistic downer that has been drowning this Blog the last month.

    This Blog used to be enjoyable to read and follow on game nights now it is not really worth the time, mainly due to the negativity and all the Mets trolls since they actually have won 9 out of 10 for once. Don’t worry you will come back to earth soon.

    It is almost impossible to be positive now.

    Hamels’ numbers are not bad lately, that its true, but do you honestly watch him pitch and have confidence that this is a tough pitcher who can win big games? He’s a porcelain doll, and not someone who can be counted on. You’re always waiting for the other shoe to drop with him. Take your head out of the clouds.

Especially Moyer, I mean Moyer REALLY SUCKS. What kind of a HORRIBLE pither goes at least 6 innings in all but one outing (granted a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE) outing. I mean he has to go, the old geezer is done. Moyer just sucks that he simply can not pitch against good teams. I mean he REALLY sucked against the Braves, the Padres and Yankees. Thank god that A-Roid, Texiera and Jeter werent in the game, or this could have been messy. What horrible pitcher goes 8 IP 3 hits, 2 ER (FYI the 2nd ER probably should have been a strike out). He seriously sucks.

    Lets just hope that Lidge is up to form. Even last year Lidge only blew 1 save last season at CBP, and I believe his ERA was about 3 or 4. He blew what 9 or 10 saves away with an ERA above 7. So far Lidge has looked REALLY good, but we shall see.

    I already have a headache Manny. LOL. But it was just too easy to resist. Everyone knows I am probably the BIGGEST Moyer fan on here, and I didnt really expect this at all. I was hoping for 6IP, 4 ER. WOW. Then again, I expected 6 IP, 3 ER against the Red Sox, and that was the Worst outing of his career. Keep in mind though, that was 5 days after his 2nd complete game. Either way, this has been a very good season so far for Moyer. His W-L record does NOT accruately sum up this season.

    Jeff, I hope to Jesus he leads us to another World Series. I would almost anything for that. But those numbers you cite are decent, at best. A bit above average. Last night i admit i was pissed cause at some point everyone has to admit this has been more than a slump. Mets and Braves are both winning again tnite , and bleeding has to stop soon. If tonite is game 1 of sixty the rest of way great. If were within 4 or 5 games ( or better ) at allstar break .And if jimmy stays healthy we get those 92 wins , I think bureau and all the other pesimists should have some respect and give these guys the respect they have earned.

    Chuck, if I am wrong, I will eat those words in a sh*t sandwich while grinning from ear to ear. Nothing would make me happier. I’ve just done a lot of soul searching this past week, because the Phillies play was making me feel so terrible. Now that I’m at peace with having a bad team, I’m much calmer and happier. I have no expectations. I’ll be happy if we don’t lose 100 games. I’ll be even happier if I’m 100% wrong. But this is not some sub-.500 month where you go 13-15. The Phils are 7-18 in their last 25, scoring 2.6 runs/game during that time. You can’t dress up that turd.

    So Far Lidge is doing VERY WELL! I think the surgery may have been it. I said last year after he came back, he still wasnt hitting velocity, and wasnt making the full stretch, he appears to be doing it now. I do NOT expect 0 blown saves honestly, but he looks very good.

    You’re right Mostone, good thing Moyer had the run support. NOT. Lidge had similar saves in ’08. He would show plenty of cracks. 1 quick out, give up a run, a walk, then a GIDP. I believe thats how he saved the NL East clincher in 08 actually. Its difficult to remember because I was there, drunk with both beer, and PURE EXCITEMENT. I remember it was a GIDP, and I had the White Rally Towel over my head for a batter.

    Can’t complain too much about Lidge there. Those were extraordinarily tough outs. The one thing that’s still concerning is how the offense seems to be able to score only in one-inning bursts. Granted, there were *two* good innings tonight, and the Yanks’ bullpen has been strong this year. I’ll feel better about things when they can spread out some runs and notch more timely hits…

    Thats cool bureaudratist. Maybe I logged on at the wrong time, as I am the argumenative one. 🙂 I admit it. I am usually the defensive one. I also try to be the last one to throw in the towel, just not the last 3 weeks of the season last season, which they were also REALLY SLUMPING. They had a HUGE lead going in, and won the game necessary. Atlanta quite after they were elimated. I am not ready to give up on this team yet. I will NOT throw in the towel. I may panic, and regardless of a VERY GOOD WIN, I am still in a little bit of a panic now, I have NOT given up on this team.

    I’m pretty sure Hamels has done better in 2010 than this string of comments is showing. If he’d been backed up by the offense, his win-lose ratio would look a LOT different. And he hasn’t been throwing the hissy fits on the mound he was throwing in ’09.

    Moyer’s got steel ones. Come back from the most terrible outing of his career against the Sox and goes eight with, what, three hits against a pretty hot Yankees offense.

    Now if the Phillies can keep up the hits for more than three innings at a time, the boys might be back in business.

    miked73, I wish I knew. Seeing how even after this HORRIBLE SLUMP, they are still what 3.5 games back? Thats doesnt show much accomplishment for the top 2 (right now). If thats the case, the Braves and Mutts, play like the Braves and Mutts, it really could only take 8-85 games. Sadly, while I dont think the Mets are a good “Team”, they have had some good stuff come from the WIERDEST of places (Ike Dave and Mike Pelfrey). The Braves, I honestly expected to do what they have been doing. I didnt expect the Phillies this poorly though. EVERYONE knew the Braves were “stacking up” for a run for Bobby Cox’s last season. Thankfully Chipper Jones is NOT playing like Chipper Jones. If he was hitting like himself, they would be far ahead.

    You know Moyer seems to like to put on clinics. He did this a few times last season, one start he gets roughed up, and the night before his next start another pitcher would get roughed up, just for Moyer to come out and put on a “clinic”. Granted he has had more “clinics” this season is pitching MUCH better than last season, he seems to really like these situations. Am I wrong?

That would be very bad for the Phillies, but then again, that would probbly only be bad for a year or two.     I agree with Jeff of NoVa. Dobbs helped out alot in ’08, obviously nothing last season, and this season either is completely done, or just having a bad year after last. Ironic how we are talking about this when he started the scoring going 1-1 with an RBI. LOL. Overall, Valdez, Castro and Gload from the bench is honeslty fine with me. I believe Gload’s problem is lack of utilization, and not being utilizied correctly. He killed almost EVERYONE last year, and I dont think that was a fluke.

    Bernie Madoff took all the Mets ownerships money. I dont see them as players anymore.
    Simple we add players. I am not sold on Ibanez playing every day this year or next year. Although he has maybe been the best hitter through this disasters slump.

    Sometimes you have to let players go. Rowand comes to mind. Even if you love them.

    I worry about the Nats and the Braves. I do nto the Mets. As soon as Beltout is back he will infect the team and they will start losing. They are better not having him and Delgado. Thats the difference. We need him back and I wish they still had Delgado.

    Way back when the Govenor of Pa was asked to protect the Congress when they met in Philly from protestors, John D I think his name was sympathized with the protestors and would not do so. The Congress was forced to Princeton then NYC making it the first capital, once DC established as the place for the capital, Philly became the temporary Capital until DC was finished

    So there is your history lesson of the day, no I teach Math:)

    Philly was the first capitol… our forefathers quickly corrected that mistake.

    And I meant what I said… were/are is irrelevant. Undeserved is the point. Sorry if it was too complicated for you.

    And why waste time commenting on a speculation about Sept./Oct.? I can’t argue about events that haven’t happened yet. That’s a quick route to a “Yes the will.”/”No they won’t!” exchange. Perhaps that’s as sophisticated as you get but most of us are more than 5 years old.

    I used to think that too, but the capitol is stated to be where its government meets, which was where the first Congress was and that was in NYC, but our government and independence was created thought off fought over in Philly, in the State house also known as Independence Hall, later became the second Capitol and was the Capitol much longer than NYC, so we can stick that in their pipe:)

    Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was the first capital under the First Continental Congress from September 5, 1774 to October 24, 1774.

    Baltimore, Maryland was the first capital under the Second Continental Congress from December 20, 1776 to February 27, 1777.

    Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was the first capital under the Articles of Confederation from March 1, 1781 to June 21, 1783.

    New York City was the first capital under the Constitution from March 4, 1789 to August 12, 1790.

    I think Blanton ultimately will be fine. Starting the season on the DL messed him up and it’s just taking awhile for him to find his rhythm.

    So Three Phillies are good teams. Um, maybe this is diificult for you Phriggin, but it takes 9 players on a field at a time to make a good team,. So obviously you mean 3 Phillies TEAMS. But hey, maybe thats what the Mets are used too…3 good Mets, the rest not so good. Maybe thats it. Could that be why the Mets have done nothing in the last few years. Or am I using complicated terms that 9 players on the field (including the pitcher there buddy) forms a TEAM, and not 3 Phillies.

    Carpenter’s Hall was a meeting place for the First Continental Congress, we were not a nation then, they were meeting to discuss how our nation will work.

    Constitution is what made us a Country, it was ratified and the first Congress under it met in NYC 2 year later moved to Philly until DC was finished.

    They were the designated,places to meet cause they were centrally located for all colonies, and yes we were still colonies so not there was no capital, Philly and MD there was no government so we had no capital…..explain that one please

    So techniquely under the First CCC and the Second CCC we had Philly then Baltimore, but WE WERE NOT A NATION TILL THE CONSTITUTION WAS WRTTEN, Come on guys think

    Sorry Brian you are mistaking the fact that all our independence and ideas and meetings were in Philly but when GW took office he was in NYC He was sworn in Balcony of Federal Hall New York making him the First President of the US, completing our 3 branches of government making us a country

    People may not believe this, but I DID feel that Moyer would stymie the Yanks tonight, and that the Phils would win.

    Strangely, I did NOT think they’d win last night behind Halladay, and that it would be because Halladay would be off his game.

    No, I don’t make predictions. I do get thoughts here and there, but only once in a while, and reporting them before game time would jinx the entire process.

    I do not agree that we became a nation in 1790. Same reason we celebrate Independents day on July 4th 1776

    Declaration of Independence
    On July 2, 1776, the Second Continental Congress, still meeting in Philadelphia, declared the independence of the United States. Two days later, on July 4, Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence. The drafting of the Declaration was the responsibility of a Committee of Five, which included, among others, John Adams and Benjamin Franklin, but the style of the document is attributed primarily to Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson’s work was reviewed by Franklin at length and then submitted to the Congress where numerous changes were made, including the exclusion of his charges against George III regarding slavery.

    These are the famous words from The Declaration of Independence. “We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these, are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”

    Yeah Brian I am off on the 1790 part, but if you read the following from the links you were sending me it shows you that NY was the first capital, not argueing all of the thing that happened first in Philly but being the Nation’s first capital it is not

    Agreed Jeff. The difference in opinion is NOT uncommon. I was referring to the first “Nations Capitol” from the time we claimed out independence from England. You were referring to it based only on as the “United States” with the current form (skeleton of at least) government we have now with the 3 branches of government. When you look at many different locations, the answer is almost always “It depends”. In my opinion, the Nation, while not deemed the “United States as of yet was still a nation. in your opinion, you are basing it on the Constitution. So They are honestly, technically BOTH the Nations first capitol. Some people argue (I dont understand how) that Princeton was. I find that to be BS. I base the founding of the Nation on July 4th 1776, you base the nation on the current name of the country and Consitution. Thats where the difference comes from. 🙂
