It’s Saturday night and and the mood is right. Hopefully the faithful fans visiting Citizens Bank Park will be treated to another victory as the Phillies seek to put further distance between themselves and the Braves; and inch closer to another division title. Heading into tonight’s game, the Phils are riding their fifth winning streak of five or more games this season.

Kyle Kendrick will take to the mound for the hometown nine in what could be his last start of the season. With an off day in each of the final weeks, Charlie Manuel may opt to go with a four-man rotation leaving Kyle as the odd man out. Still, a win tonight could mean Kendrick finishes the season with a winning record despite going 1-4 in his last 5 starts.

Meanwhile, Jordan Zimmermann will throw for the Nationals in his tenth start of his career. In four starts this season, Zimmermann has amassed a total of just 17 innings pitched. If the Phils can jump on him early like they did to the Nats pitcher last night, the fans should be in for a treat.

Don’t forget to listen to the latest Phillies Nation Podcast between innings.

Today’s lineup: Victorino CF, Polanco 3B, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Werth RF, Ibanez LF, Ruiz C, Valdez SS, Kendrick P

Spaten OktoberfestbierYour gamenight beer: Spaten Oktoberfestbier
In honor of the first day of Oktoberfest, we’re going with Spaten’s seasonal offering. It’s a typical lager for a beer hall – or on a day like today, a biergarden – so it goes down smooth with some roasted flavors. Of course drink it alongside your favorite wurst, Knockwurst, Bratwurst or whatever as long as it’s got some sauerkraut.

GO PHILLIES!

LOL…..TO FUNNY ANDREW……..BUT BECAUSE OF KK THIS IS THE ONLY 1 OF THE 3 I AM WORRIED ABOUT!!!!!!!!

    September 18, 2010 at 6:17 pm

I hope Kyle does a decent job. He seems like a good guy. He is a Jamie Moyer type of pitcher doesnt over power doesnt have a good strike out. He lives on painting the corners and control. I feel he is just that a fifth starter. However maybe some minor improvements will make a good fifth starter. I just dont know if he can improve any at this point. His role might be better as a fill in guy a sixth starter sorta to speak. Do you go with him or Worley into the playoffs. We havent seen much of Worley and neither has any opposing teams. This will be a tough decision for Cholly/RAJ.

Jerry Manuel should be fired today. I can’t believe how bad a manager he is.

  5. Andrew from waldorf

    September 18, 2010 at 6:22 pm

    I am watching too Lefty
The Braves need to thank thier stars for these Mets series. They are the only series they are winning.
    Its a disgrace.
Jerry is gone and so is Omar. thats bad for the Phillies though.
Could never win with those 2.

Bunting in that situation is just basic baseball, and combined with the Wright error last night leading to 6 unearned runs, I have to question whether these guys are being paid off. I’m really pis-ed!

    September 18, 2010 at 8:34 pm

Valdez was really vital to this team this year regardless of all his grounding into double plays throughout the year. Tremendous defense and clutch hitting especially with Rollins being out. Some kind of reserve player!

YEA ANDREW,THIS YEAR ONLY-C-MON DUDE RYAN HAS A TRACK RECORD MY FRIEND!!!!!!!

  62. Bart Shart

    September 18, 2010 at 8:37 pm

Valdez has been a god’s send to the Phils. He plays defense well and has shown streaks on offense. Outstanding utilityman.

Moreover, I hope I am wrong about Kendrick. He seems to stink when I praise him and do well when I denigrate him. Hope he wins tonight.

Durbin is way over worked, Contrerous pitches better the more he pitches Chad is a little tired and could use 2- 3 days off, and you can use a young arm against this team to start this inning, and use Durbin, and or Jose if one of the other guys lets someone on, Chad gets wild when he is tired, I just do not get it, Contrerous can pitch the 7th 8th or 9th. And what about Zargowski or I would like to see Baez even though you all hate him, he is going to have to work at some point to see if he has anything right now

    September 18, 2010 at 10:19 pm

I knew we were taking this game as soon as the last out of the bottom of the first was recorded.

Kyle Kendrick took a page out of Ryan Madson’s book and pitched himself into some deep sh*t and then pitched himself right out of it again. LOVE IT.

My man Wilson Valdez… we need to keep him. He’s going on the post-season roster.

How many pitches did Lidge have in the ninth? It seemed like it was about four.

First Hamels pulls to .500, and then Oswalt, and now Kyle Kendrick.

    Congratulations, RYNO!

And Lidge making a bit of history, saving himself past the great Tugger. Next stop, Wild Thing.

Let’s put the Nats away tomorrow.

    God, the Mets are crap.

  106. Andrew from waldorf

    September 18, 2010 at 10:30 pm

    RIP Tugger

At least you didnt use great in association with the wild thing 🙂

    @ Ryan
Its not boring you just expect them to win these games and they are handling business. If Lidge blows that it becomes unborring. But I really like it boring. The excitement will be fever pitch mon-wed.
I suspect after next wed the Phils will be chillaxing into the playoffs and resting people who need rest. Playing people who need action and getting ready. The more I see SF and SD the more I think Colorado will win the west. Which is probably best for the phils. Want colorado in a 7 game series not a 5 gamer.
