With their win last night, the Phillies clinched a series victory over the beleaguered Washington Nationals, ensuring at least a modicum of momentum for their most important series of the season, this week’s three-game tilt with the Atlanta Foam Rubber Tomahawk Wielders. With a three-game lead on the division, the Phillies can put another nail in the Braves’ coffin in this afternoon’s getaway game.

Opposing La Furia Roja today is Yunesky Maya. I had never heard of him before taping the latest Phillies Nation Podcast on Friday. Since then, I’ve learned that he’s 5-foot-11 and will be making his third major league appearance this afternoon. I also discovered that he’s a Cuban, which must surely mean that he’s full of pork, mustard, and Swiss cheese and is very tasty with a glass of iced tea and some potato chips.

Today’s lineup: Victorino CF, Polanco 3B, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Werth RF, Ibanez LF, Schneider C, Valdez SS, Blanton P

Blanton is pitching today. He needs to survive the first inning and I believe he will be fine. Nice to Howard, Ibanez and Werth go yard yesterday. All I have to say is “ENCORE! ENCORE!” GOOOOO PHILS

For anyone getting the Nationals feed, the announcers last night kept harping on how we hit easy home runs that wouldn’t go out of other parks. They say it’s such a big advantage for us, and act like we wouldn’t be as good if the outfield walls were deeper.

Do they not understand that their batters are hitting in the same ball park, and therefore have the same advantage?

Keep in mind that the Phils hit many balls hard and deep last night that did NOT go out – offsets any luck that those Nats people claimed the Phils had.

Blanton really needs to locate to be successful, he doesn’t have the skill or talent of our trip aces,

So a bad umpire leads to an unsuccessful Blanton, but NEVER need to throw it right down the plate. Won’t be successful

Pretty unforgivable mistake by Blanton … Morse spoiled the 3-2 changeup, but that doesn’t mean you come back right down the middle. Ray Knight, on the Nats broadcast, says it was middle-in, but it looked like a cookie to me.

  36. Bart Shart

    September 19, 2010 at 3:52 pm

Why isn’t Old Cholly using his bullpen with Blanton today? Is he having a 60’s moment or what? Blanton is not talented enough to go deep and needs relief. Old Cholly maybe thinks he needs to rest the bullpen?
Braves will win and possibly gain a precious game on us.

  59. MikeB.

    September 19, 2010 at 4:26 pm

I agree with you too Land Shark. Manuel needed to pull Blanton while the Phils still had the lead. Need to protect the lead when you have it in the heat of a pennant race and race for the playoffs during the last days of the season. Maybe Manuel is a bit over-confident.

miked, ok, but no. Difference between a Braves fan and a Phillies fan is that Phillies fans get so mad when a rival fan talks a little smack. The reason is because the Phillies are y’all’s lives, man. You live and die with every pitch like you’ll win a golden ticket through the mail if they win. Talk about a bunch of losers. LOL! THAT’S why I like ribbing you people so much. Such an easy target.

I say rednecks because rednecks are just white trash. I’m so tempted to put my freakin phone number on here so we could meet up. I will knock your fat yankee ass out! BOOOOOOM….. right on the side of your face boy!

This is the problem with Phillies fans, he is merely supporting his team. As fans, you must respect that, or else you are all ignorant.

miked, I tell you what…. I’ll be at Turner Field the last series of the year and hope to have you in the house. I really do. Then we can discuss where to meet up sice you’re so tough.

He’s out of his element, as soon as the Braves won and we were losing he came over to poke some fun, he even told me. Now he should go away instead of crying and trying to fight, that’s the problem with the south.

    And SWEET TEA SUCKS

Let the teams speak for themselves tomorrow, how about we do that?

  126. Lefty

    September 19, 2010 at 5:15 pm

@Ryan- Uh no- he can support his team on the Braves board. He’s here to antagonize, and for no other reason. I don’t respect that, do you?

  127. Ryan

    September 19, 2010 at 5:19 pm

LMFAO @ hypocracy from Lefty….If any of you knew of any Braves blogs, you would all go there and talk shit as well.

    September 19, 2010 at 5:20 pm

    “SWEET TEA SUCKS”

    So do northern chicks. YUCK!

By the way, as soon as I came on here talking about the Braves and Phillies as teams a month ago, I got smashed left and right with, “GET THE FU** OUT OF HERE”, “The Braves SUCK”, “FU**** REDNECK!”. That was well before I even started ribbing y’all.

  129. Ryan

    September 19, 2010 at 5:21 pm

Think before you speak, Lefty. There are far worse antagonists in this world than Bravoman.

We’ll we werent going to give you a cookie. We already said it’s all good fun but now someones getting their face punched in? That’s when it wasn’t just rooting for your team. We had a nice convo earlier and I told you we would win.

But ryan is right, we’ll see what happens tomorrow.

  131. Lefty

    September 19, 2010 at 5:22 pm

Keep laughin dikweed- What do you think the Braves boards are hidden, like we can’t find them if we wanted? Who the hell wants to go to a board where there is no intelligent life to be found.

And by the way, what is your reason for being here?

  132. BravoMan

    September 19, 2010 at 5:23 pm

Ryan, they already do. Dave O’Brien’s Braves blog has been getting hammered with Phillies fans. One of them is cool and the others call us every name in the book. US and our Braves. Believe me, what I say here is mild compared to some of the trash they talk. Mercy! And it’s just ME here. Not one other Braves fan except that one girl DesriBrave, or whatvever she called herself.

  133. Ryan

    September 19, 2010 at 5:23 pm

What do you expect though Bravo?

  134. pheeling it

    September 19, 2010 at 5:25 pm

Hahaha Lefty, your 100% right. I enjoy talking about my team, not theirs. Bravoman told me earlier he believes his karma is coming for trash talking, he gives Braves fans a bad name. Ryan where are you from

Do we really have 89 wins already? We had the worst year of injuries ever!

  136. BravoMan

    September 19, 2010 at 5:28 pm

I’ll give a quick rundown as to what your team will be facing tomorrow:

Jurrjens – he’s been inconsistant, but is way over due for a good outing. His changeup has always been his best pitch, but it’s been batting practice for hitters lately. If it’s up, he’ll get hammered all night again. Most of us think he’s hiding an injury, maybe his right shoulder.

Our offense is up and down, but Derek Lee seems to be coming around. So is Mclouth.

Phillies – well, they’re as hot as can be and will be a huge challenge, especially going against their top three.

It should be a good series.

    September 19, 2010 at 5:28 pm

Anywho…can’t wait till tomorrow. It’s gonna be one hell of a battle I hope…and I’m staying far away from this chat after the games, no matter what the outcome.

  138. Lefty

    September 19, 2010 at 5:29 pm

Pheelin, it’s unbelieveable that we have this many wins. This is a team we can really be proud of. We might even end up with more wins than the twins,Yanks and rays. (not that it means anything)

  144. pheeling it

    September 19, 2010 at 5:40 pm

Hahaha nah I’m not mad, I thought you were disgusted with us ripping on Bravoman and I didn’t mean to fall into the bias of annoying Philadelphia phans. I hate the rep we have too but when people say beat your face on our page I had to one-up him with the sweet tea sucks line. It really does suck if you ever had it.

I root against the yankees too. It doesn’t matter, they’ll still get the wild card but everyday my buddy talks smack and I love it when they lose. I truly want to play them again because they DO NOT have the same team they did last year.

We don’t either, I think Cole is back to 08, the rotation may be the best of all time, we have the same bats except Polly and even our bullpen looks a little less lost. Minus Baez and Romero today

Oh well. The Braves look to be about done. No life on the team whatsoever. Sad, but it’s only a game. I just feel for Cox in a way. It looks like they’ve given up on him.

Andrew is probably inflated with a huge head. Hey, if it makes you feel good about yourself (how pathetic) then feel good about your prediction my man.

Didn’t you pack it in already like a typical braves fan? Why did you come back.

I only have one word to say about Polonco, Utley, Howard, and Werth in the 9th…Amazing!!

I bet Braves fans were watching pitch by pitch on Mlb.com on their computers, Ipods and Iphones in the 8th and 9th inning, all happy, thinking…Were coming up on them Phils, only 2 games out now..Than next thing ya know ”Boom” walk off homerun puts them right back to 3 games ha ha. Gotta love it

I was in New Hope today with some friends, we were watching up till the sixth and then walked around for a bit. When I got a call in the middle of the renaissance in the ninth, we double-booked it back to the car just in time to hear Andersen and Franzke calling the Werth bomb.

I was happy to hear that Polanco was in the middle of the great stuff in the ninth. He’s been playing hurt and he finally got going in this series.

My buddy Andy: “It makes me happy to think of the Braves getting on their bus assuming they were two games out and then getting nauseous when they heard the final score.”

    Bring on the Braves.

Just a note to fellow phans. My dad and I decided to go to the game yesterday and we heard from a friend who works in security that you can go up to the willcall window and ask about player’s family and friend tickets. Players have tickets reserved for family and friends, and if they are unable to attend the tickets can be resold to fans. We got 2 tickets for 60 bucks a piece, section 126 right behind home plate, and sat behind Ryan Zimmerman’s aunt and cousin and Willie Harris’ father. Give it a shot some time if you don’t mind spending a few extra bucks.
