The Phillies 2010 season began in Washington, DC with Roy Halladay squaring off against John Lannan. It could for all intents and purposes come to a close tonight under the same scenario. A Phillies win or a Braves loss will clinch the fourth consecutive division title for the Phillies.

Rain is expected tonight, so there is a chance the game will be postponed or even canceled. For the latest on how the weather will affect tonight’s game, follow Twitter:

After a brief appearance in yesterday’s game, Jimmy Rollins will not be starting.

Today’s lineup: Victorino CF, Polanco 3B, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Werth RF, Ibanez LF, Ruiz C, Valdez SS, Halladay P

LOL at the Twitter entry about the Phillies clinching during a rain delay, get trashed, and then finish the game. There’s a story in there somewhere.

    Dear Jamie Moyer,

Please conference with Charlie and Doobs. I’d love to see you bullpenning it in the playoffs, because I like you so much, but please don’t come back if you’re not ready.

(That being said, a wounded Jamie Moyer is worth two of our bullpen regulars. I’m looking at you, JC.)

    Much love,

I was so happy when my wife said Howard was a overrated waste of space. Yes again the man will hit you 30 homers. The power is slowly declining. He strikes out way to much. I would never trust him in a big spot. No way. Just throw him junk. For that kind of money he should have 45 homers and 150 rbis. Strike out way less. What a waste of money for the big nose.

I love Ryan Howard when he is going well but when was the last time he got a big hit for the Phillies? He just cannot hit soft-tossing LHP. We need Jayson Werth in the worst way. At this point I would allow him to name his price. He is the lynch pin the of the entire lineup…..AND RUIZ CRACKS A DOUBLE!!!

@adam — thank god our lineup is so deep ,thats what seperates the phils from the giants , padres and the rest of the NL playoff teams. Even when Chase and Ryan are goin bad we can still score. I really think when the lights are brightest we’ll be fine. This is the DOC were gonna see come playoff time i have no doubt. Cole and Roy 2 will also have the adrenelin flowin , who we playing in the series ?
I’m not being over confident just wanna know who you guys/girls thinks goin from the AL ?

  62. biz

    September 27, 2010 at 8:47 pm

Leave it to Jeff to post nothing but negativity while the Phillies are clinching the division and Doc is straight dealing. Hey jeff, if it wasnt for the injury, Ryno would have finished with 40HR and 130RBI’s, again. Like he has every year.

Every night it’s like qa broken record with you. I could understand if your complaint was with the pen, but this garbage with you every single night is too much. September 27, 2010 at 8:53 pm

Hey Phillyboy I am not miserable. Go look at Howard’s numbers in big situations this year. I was merely using that fact to boost my Jayson Werth assertion. Get a clue.

As to Mostone, it really is an amazing time in Phillies history. Every time they get this close I think about the days I went to the Vet as a kid with my dad and watched those horrendous teams play. I loved, my like many of your I am sure, every second of it. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think the Phils would have a run like this. There are so many moments this year and in the past few years that just give you goosebumps thinking about them.

I think it is safe to say our grandchildren will be asking use questions like “Tell me about Chase Utley, and Ryan Howard and Jimmy Rollins” Where to begin on a question like that. How could you sum up Chase Utley? Would you start by saying his first hit was a GS? Or that he played the game the right way? Or that he hit 5 home runs in one WS? We are watching Phillies legends.

Contrary to waht Jay-aka-Phillyboy wants all of you to believe, I am enjoying this immensely.

    September 27, 2010 at 8:55 pm

Everyone chill on Jeff, everyone has their own opinion why let it bother you. Howard does lead in RBI though Jeff, when he does hit it’s game over and you know he’ll get his.

4th straight NL East champs, Halladay is pitching a gem.

Extra day’s rest, and the Doc is back to top form. Best start in some time. The man who dominated on opening day, kept the team in it throughout the Slump, is now going to clinch it. Poetic.

  73. Adam

    September 27, 2010 at 9:01 pm

Yes i realize he leads in RBI but how many came in the 7th inning or later in a close game? I don’t know the answer but all I am saying is that this, for Howard’s standards, has been a disappointing year. Simple as that. (as he turns over on a fastball)

But I do love this team and enjoy Howard when he is hitting well.

Hello Denizens !! Just wanted to drop in and congratulate the phillies on winning the division. Great job by all of you enduring the difficult times when the team was slumping..,

Braves are huffing and puffing and have their share of injuries with JJ pretty much done for the season.., But a faint hope that they will somehow make it is still there..,

Anyways enjoy the good times !!!

If Werth and Utley were out past 4am in July when they were in St. louis…what are the chances they wake up naked on Abe Lincolns lap?

    Who would have thought?

I always believed it could happen, but who would’ve thought best record in the NL, 6.5 over the Braves, about to clinch home field.

Who ever would have thought in July?

    September 27, 2010 at 9:55 pm

  153. Lefty

    September 27, 2010 at 10:08 pm

July 21st -We were two games over .500

    Almost .750 baseball since- unbelievable

  154. Mostone

    September 27, 2010 at 10:09 pm

I grew up watching the Big Red Machine in Cincinnati in the 70s. I honestly never expected to have an experience like that again as a fan. Enjoy this. Appreciate this. Savor this.

    GO PHILS!!!

  155. Chuck

    September 27, 2010 at 10:15 pm

Yeah, how bout that record since late July, Lefty!! I remember saying around Aug 1 that 95 wins would probably win us the division…and a few people on here said that would almost be impossible.

  156. Mazinman

    September 27, 2010 at 10:18 pm

On the radio Mike Sweeney said that his teammates let Doc, Schneider, and him open the first bottles of champagne since they have not gotten to do it before. That is real class by a classy team.

  157. Lefty

    September 27, 2010 at 10:19 pm

I might have been one of them Chuck! But just like this unbelievable team, I never gave up.

  158. Chuck

    September 27, 2010 at 10:23 pm

Raul said the same this on PostGame Live on Comcast. Classy bunch for sure..

    ——–

I knew they would make the postseason….but THIS is unbelievable!! Winning the division with almost a week to go.

    WOW!!!

  159. ray

    September 27, 2010 at 10:24 pm

Why isn’t jeff joining in on the celebration? oh that’s right, this team is a joke

  160. Brian Sr. of CO

    September 27, 2010 at 10:26 pm

I would prefer to think October is the best month of the year. I must say though Chuck, I believe it is fitting that the Phillies won the division at the Ballpark were Harry Kalas passed away.

  161. Lefty

    September 27, 2010 at 10:33 pm

Not that it means anything, but we have reclaimed the best record in MLB

Brian SR- I forgot about that, I bet Harry’s sing High Hopes somewhere right now.

  162. Mike D.

    September 27, 2010 at 10:34 pm

Never thought of that, Brian. I was thinking more of how Halladay ended it where he began it. How’s Brian Jr.?

  163. Scott in D.C.

    September 27, 2010 at 10:37 pm

Ray Knight and Bob Carpenter, the Nats broadcasters, were really gracious in their praise of both Halladay and the Phils tonight. Carpenter noted, rightly, that the Phils spent good money to get talent like the Doc, but that the nucleus of the team is homegrown.

  164. Lefty

    September 27, 2010 at 10:42 pm

I heard that Scott. It was refreshing, considering their bashing of CBP as a bandbox last week. I keep wondering why that’s an adavantage for us, both teams bat in the same ballpark during a game right?

  165. Lefty

    September 27, 2010 at 10:43 pm

Miked63- I missed your shoutout earlier. We did it Buddddy!!!!!!

  166. loupossehl

    September 27, 2010 at 10:53 pm

Great to see Halladay back with his “A” game. This sets our rotation from here on out, when it matters: Roy1, Cole, Roy2. For the rest of the NL, and the AL winner: goof luck with that.

DesiBrave – thanks for dropping by and the tip of the proverbial hat.

  167. loupossehl

    September 27, 2010 at 10:54 pm

Not only “goof luck” – but “good luck.” Ugh.

  168. JAY-AKA-PHILLYBOY

    September 27, 2010 at 10:59 pm

Mike Sweeney was attacked from behind by Brad Lidge, who sprayed him with champagne. “It really does burn!” he yelled

  169. Brian Sr. of CO

    September 27, 2010 at 10:59 pm

Mike D, Brian Jr is doing well, thanks for asking. He is growing up SO FAST. He is hoping for a an AWESOME birthday present this year of another NL and WS Pennant! As am I of course! LOL.

On a side note, I have NEVER seen another site on the Internet where people who have never met in person can remember things about anbother person who posts there, and actually cares enough to ask about their family or kids. Thats pretty awesome, Thanks Mike D!

Glad to see Desibrave is a classy fan!

Halladay said he planned to do his normal 45-min postgame workout. “I bet he’ll be the first guy in the clubhouse tomorrow,” Dubee said.

Cy Young Award, division, one win away from best record in NL – securing home field – just soak it all in!

I can’t believe the season is over.

I can’t picture this Halladay fella coming up short. I just can’t

  174. Lefty

Mike Sweeney not only hugs, he gives Victorino a huge kiss!

Ryno says they need us. What say we give it to him?

Charlie for 2010 MVP and Manager of the Year!

Well played, Mr. Amaro. Well f*cking played.

  178. Mike D.

    September 28, 2010 at 12:01 am

Of course, Brian, glad to hear all is well. I remembered when you announced his birth it was during a comeback last October and I remember thinking “wow what a day it was for him.” Can’t remember which series. Anyway, hope to actually have time to comment during the playoffs. Eighteen credits. Madness.

Of course, if they win without me commenting, I might not comment. I don’t want to upset these things.

Jay that the 2 hit shut out solidified the Cy Young is enough.
    Was a great time.
    Why did Doc come here?
Division, Pennant, Cy Young, WS championship.
    Pleasure
