They call it “The Hangover.” Not the movie, the lineup. No Zach Galifinakis making funnies, but a lineup short the normal starters. Utley and Howard are still in there, with nothing really to play for. It’s obvious Charlie Manuel wants to keep his guys fresh.

Plaicdo Polanco is out, and you may not see him for the rest of the season as he’ll rest that bum elbow. So the good news is he’ll get more than a week to heal. Shane Victorino, Carlos Ruiz, and Jayson Werth are the other regulars to get a blow tonight.

It’s also official: The Phillies will begin their playoff schedule on Wednesday, October 6 at Citizens Bank Park. Going with that start date (the Phils had the choice between Wednesday the 6th or Thursday the 7th), they’ll be assured normal rest for Halladay, Hamels, and Oswalt until Game 4 of the NLCS (not getting too far ahead of ourselves). That means Joe Blanton is your long man in the pen and we’ll get to see plenty of the Big 3. Nothing wrong with that.

Tonight is a fine opportunity to take a look at the bench the Phillies will have in the postseason. Greg Dobbs, Dom Brown, Brian Schneider, and Ben Francisco will all get some hacks as they get prepared for the playoff run. More importantly, Jimmy Rollins is back in the order. He’ll get some at bats before the regular season ends. He hasn’t started a game since September 8.

Today’s lineup: Rollins SS, Ibanez LF, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Francisco CF, Brown RF, Dobbs 3B, Schneider C, Oswalt P

Nugget NectarYour Gameday Beer – Rouge Dead Guy Ale
It was named one of the five best beers in America by Food and Wine Magazine. This is a darker, more intense style of ale (technically, it’s a German style called a Maibock). It’s a bit higher in alcohol — 6.5 percent — with a toasty, malty character and real texture to it. This is my go-to for big, spicy foods: sausages on the grill, barbecued ribs, that kind of thing. -Pat Gallen

Here I thought Howard would be joining Polanco and Ruiz in the dugout drinking the rest of last night’s champagne.

Prediction: Roy goes to the sixth and Zigurski sees the mound at some point.

Far be it from to question the Manuel, but it’s interesting that Werth and his hot streak are sitting down and Howard and his ankle are not.

    It’s all good, though!

One of these kids (named Steven) on the side bar here says he likes “Partying, marijuana, Phillies”. Obviously Steven is just a Pollock that doesn’t know better, so he gets a pass.

Hey Bravoman — no racism on this site. Play nice even though your team is a LOSER.

Moreover, I hope that the Phils score a bunch of runs early so that Oswalt picks up the win, goes no more than six innings and gets some rest until the playoffs.

BravoMan…dude…seriously….you’re STILL on here??….even though your team lost the division??

You guys have a chance at the Wild Card. Why not spend some time on a Braves blog….and try to support and cheer your own team to the playoffs??…

Oh, that’s right…I forgot. You have no blog to go to….because you have NO FANBASE..

I hope Polanco is able to play in Sunday’s game, but we need him for the post-season. Greg Dobbs may do all right as a DH, but he doesn’t touch Polly at third base.

I hope the utilities do well tonight.

Martin Prado’s MRI and exam revealed a hip pointer and also a torn oblique muscle. Will need 2 months complete rest. Prado will miss the remainder of the season. With normal healing Prado could begin preparations for Spring Training.

…..on a positive note, it was good to see players get a rest. Tomorrow, let’s see Sweeney at first base and Howard rest. Gload in left with Ibanez resting. Let the bench get the rust out.

  74. Chuck

    September 28, 2010 at 10:09 pm

Whoa….On Postgame Live, Ricky Bo just kind of hinted that there COULD be a case for putting Dobbs on the postseason roster. Because of Polanco and Jimmy nursing injuries and Valdez being the only utility guy.

  75. BravoMan

    September 28, 2010 at 10:17 pm

I love the “Braves don’t have a fanbase” BS. LOL …ok, sure. Why is it then whenever they travel they have tons of fans in the bleachers with Braves hats or jersey’s on? Remember that Braves fans are loyal no matter what, unlike so many of the badwagon Phillies fans. Don’t say it isn’t true either. About Braves blogs ….David O’Brien has the best MLB/sports blog around. Yes, it’s a Braves blog. Y’all oughta check it out and see what I’m sayin’.

Don’t talk what you don’t know because somebody will call you out on the truth. That’s my job, to call out ignorant Philly fans that get away with it only talking to each other.

Where’s Andouche with his constant, “Braves are a joke, they won’t even sniff the playoffs” silliness?
