Ken Burns' Baseball: The Tenth Inning

Last week I attended a screening and panel discussion for Baseball: The Tenth Inning by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick at The George Washington University’s Listner Auditorium. We saw clips of the latest documentary in the Baseball series which airs September 28 & 29 at 8 p.m. ET on your local PBS station. It chronicled the period from 1994 to 2007 and touched on subjects including the ’94 strike, Cal Ripken, the ’98 home run race, steroids, and the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry. ESPN senior sports writer Howard Bryant also joined the discussion that covered the film and the current state of Major League Baseball. Here’s a video of the hour-long event.

I hope that true fans of baseball here had the opportunity to see the best documentary on the history of the game as presented by Ken Burns and shown originally on PBS around the mid-90’s. It’s available on DVD box set of 10 discs (18 1/2 Hrs.) I remembered it won an Emmy Award and many accolades from critics of various media. I loved it and proudly have the DVD box set in my collection.

I have the DVD box set and got to watch the entire Tenth Inning. It was simply fantastic. Ken Burns is tremendous. I told my girlfriend that if the world had to create a time capsule for people to see 10,000 years from now Ken Burn’s documentary should be in there as it is it does the best job at explaining baseball, its culture, and the historical backdrop.

Simply tremendous. Great to see old clips of Pedro, Curt Schilling, Bonds, Ichiro in his Japan days, etc.
