It’s the final tuneup of the regular season!  After today, it’s on to the postseason.  Even though the Phillies are already in, they have business to take care of.  The Atlanta Braves are tied with the San Diego Padres for the Wild Card.  It would be great if the Phillies can kick the Braves out of playoff contention.  The Phillies would have an easier road in the postseason if San Diego wins the Wild Card.

The Braves are on the verge of getting swept by a team who has played Triple-A players.  In addition, they might miss the postseason.  It can’t get much worse for Atlanta, especially knowing that two aces are pitching against them today.  Cole Hamels AND Roy Owalt will be teaming up;  Hamels will start, and Oswalt will relieve.  The Phillies don’t want either to go long enough where they could get injured, but they also want their players to be in a rhythm for the postseason.

Beck'sYour Gameday Beer – Beck’s
Beck’s, a classic German Brewery, provides tonight’s beer like a present wrapped neatly in tin foil. It’s certainly not the best German beer but it is popular and widely available. Like similar mass-produced pilsners it has that traditional rice and corn beer taste, though not has strong as a Bud or Miller product. It of course goes well with Wiener Schnitzel otherwise known as veal cutlets. – By Brian

You know my thoughts on this game.

Have to say would be funny as crap if the Iron Pigs swept the Braves and Bobby cox under these circumstances.

    My last game Chris Wheeler.
    I am excited.

And of course Cole and Roy2 are appearing in the same game in Atlanta, where they can’t properly appreciate the fact of seeing two of our three-headed monster in the same game.

No worries. Let’s give Bobby Cox a great send-off to retirement!

With the exception of our pitcher’s spot, this is almost the same line-up as Opening Day at Citizens Bank South.

I am intrigued by the idea of a 3 way tie and all that would do to the 3 teams.
Also to beat atlanta and knock them out and end thier season and Bobbys career is pretty funny.

Personally id rather have Mayberry in the playoffs vs a right handed pitcher than dobbs

I am big on pitching on reg rest and so is Charlie Manuel. Another reason he is a better manager than Cocks.

  25. Manny

    October 3, 2010 at 2:45 pm

This is good… now Baez won’t have a chance of getting into the postseason roster over Bastardo… and we’re losing, which is what we need to do. lol

  26. Tracey

    October 3, 2010 at 2:45 pm

Yeah, bye bye Danny. Pack your bags; you won’t be playing again this year.

It is amazing that the Braves have some many fans today. The entire season had a 90percent empty ballpark and no fans but today, the last game of the year, the stadium is filled. lol.

  30. jt

    October 3, 2010 at 2:57 pm

now danny baez has zero chance of making playoff roster so i guess their is some good there…i think the phillies should just get rid of the guy…

    October 3, 2010 at 3:05 pm

    cough cough

    nice use of Baez
    now for herndon LOL

The braves fans are the worst

re they going to have champagne if they win?
even if they win they clinch nothing but a ticket to a possible playoff game if SD beats SF

what a joke. the worst team EVER to make the playoffs IMO if they make it

  35. JAY-AKA-PHILLYBOY

    October 3, 2010 at 3:07 pm

    CARLOS IS FINE……….

  36. JAY-AKA-PHILLYBOY

    October 3, 2010 at 3:10 pm

Well, this is a fitting end to Danys Baez’s season. Signed to a 2-year, $5.25M deal and is an unequivocal disappointment.

  37. JAY-AKA-PHILLYBOY

    October 3, 2010 at 3:11 pm

Cole Hamels finishes with a career-best 3.06 ERA. Roy Oswalt’s 2.76 is his best since his rookie season (2001).

we got baez next year too?

  39. Andrew from waldorf

IMO signing short relievers is the #1 goal this off season

  40. JAY-AKA-PHILLYBOY

    October 3, 2010 at 3:13 pm

Carlos Ruiz finishes with a 0.3995 OBP. He’s the first regular NL catcher since Mitch Meluskey (2000) to have a .400 OBP.

and even if Sd doesnt win we get the reds which isnt a bad thing

  59. NJ Phils Fan

    October 3, 2010 at 3:42 pm

I know its a meaningless game and the Braves still have a 4 run lead, but I smell a comeback. I also have an epiphany where Tim Hudson is taken out of the game with a broken right arm after being drilled by El Titan De Bronze.

  60. miked63

    October 3, 2010 at 3:42 pm

I honestly wanted a braves and padres win today. Make sf,sd,atl play extra games and travel. Theyre rotations will not be set up.
@chuck—–your not really putting any stock in how phils are playing today are you ? This is being approached like a spring training game relax , come wednesday the playoff juices will be flowin i’m not worried at all.

  74. BrewTown PhilsPhan

    October 3, 2010 at 4:11 pm

Someone said this was being played like a spring training game – I would say it’s more like Little League rules. Everybody gets to play for at least one at bat and one inning in the field. Does this mean Charlie has to take them all for ice cream after the game even if they lose?

It would be rather pathetic if the Braves took a win too seriously, but I can understand the fans; they’re on the brink of seeing their team extend its season.
