Polanco to Have Elbow Surgery Friday – Phillies Nation

Polanco to Have Elbow Surgery Friday

Third baseman Placido Polanco will have surgery on his left elbow on Friday morning, General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced today.  The surgery will be performed by Phillies Team Physician Dr. Michael Ciccotti.

Polanco will have bone fragments removed from his elbow, in addition to having his extensor tendon repaired.

“The recovery time for this procedure is typically eight to 10 weeks and we fully expect Placido to be ready by spring training, but we’ll know more after the surgery,” said Amaro.

Polanco hit .298 during the regular season with six home runs and 52 RBI, but struggled in the playoffs, most of the Phillies did. In the postseason, Polly hit .206, but did knock in five runs in the NLCS against the Giants.

Looks like he’ll be OK for the spring. Gotta give it up to Polly for the way he played this year – he was injured for a better part of the season, but took multiple cortisone shots and fought his way through it, all while giving exceptional defense at third base.

Definitely have to give it up to Polly for all his effort and toughing out the elbow injury. Here’s hoping for the best of luck with the surgery.

Polly got 5 RBIs in the NLCS? Impressive! Take note, you know who.

Guys a keeper and a warrior.
But this team must get younger more healthier players.

Polly is a gamer. If not for the injury he might of batted .320. Hope he returns to form.

Giants are killing Texas. Fact, I would take Ross over Howard in a big spot any day of the year.

@jeff, any day of the year? Take all those days, and years, and add them up at the end of the careers of these two guys and then try and say the same thing. unless you were joking. or unless by day of the year you were referring to anytime during October 2010, in which case I would agree with you.

Oh jeffy jeffy – please show me the money!
At the end of next year, Cody Ross will be riding some teams bench fostering a sub .250 ba with perhaps double digit hrs and a fond memory of post season past.
Ryan Howard will be at the plate again, hopefully improved and hopefully coming up big in his showtime.

I know where the Cody Ross hate comes from, but he’s actually not a bad player. He hasn’t been a bench player since 2007, and I’d be willing to bet that he’d become a fan favorite if he played in Philly.

    I’m Ted Bell.

Weren’t we in the running to obtain Cody Ross before the deadline? Pretty sure of it.

Cody Ross probably would have done a better job at 2nd base than Chase Utley did during the playoffs.

The Giants signed Cody Ross this summer after he was waived by Florida to keep the Phillies and a few other teams from snatching him up.
