Victorino Wins 3rd Consecutive Gold Glove

In a press release from the Phillies:

Center fielder Shane Victorino was among nine National League players to win Rawlings Gold Glove Awards for the 2010 season. It is the third career Gold Glove Award for Victorino, who also won the honor in 2008 and 2009.

In 143 games for the Phillies this past season, Victorino, 29, posted a .995 fielding percentage, committing only two errors in 373 total chances.  He finished tied for the NL lead in outfield assists with 11, tops among all NL center fielders, and ranked second in double plays (4).

“It’s an honor to be recognized by the managers and coaches as one of the top defensive players in the league along with all the other deserving candidates,” said Victorino. “I take a lot of pride in my defense and this award means a lot to me.”

Victorino is now the sixth Phillie to have won at least three Gold Glove Awards, joining Mike Schmidt (10), Garry Maddox (8), Manny Trillo (3), Scott Rolen (3) and Jimmy Rollins (3).  Victorino and Maddox (1975-82) are the only two outfielders in club history to have won at least three awards and Schmidt, Maddox, Rollins and Victorino are the only four Phillies to have won Gold Gloves in at least three consecutive seasons.
