Pat Gallen Inducted Into The Philadelphia Sports Writers Association – Phillies Nation

Pat Gallen Inducted Into The Philadelphia Sports Writers Association

I approached Pat Gallen in July of 2009 when Tim Malcolm stepped down as our main scribe here at Phillies Nation. At the time, Pat was the Phillies reporter for the Philadelphia Examiner where I felt his skilled writing and superior analysis were being under utilized and not appreciated. Not only has Pat’s writing informed and entertained all of us since last summer, along with your support, he has grown to become a respected member of the Phillies media community.  Pat Gallen is not just an invaluable member of the Phillies Nation family – he is also my friend.

Today, Pat was inducted into the Philadelphia Sports Writers Association along with Kevin McAlpin of 97.5 the Fanatic in Philadelphia.

On the behalf of everyone at we are proud to feature the work of premier writers, such as Pat, that you have come to expect from us and ourselves.

Good show Pat. Nice for a guy who’s probably not 25 years old yet.
You’ve got a good talent, we all enjoy your writing.

Seems like the Winter Meetings were somewhat of a dud for the Phils. Denys Reyes seems to be nothing more than an overweight journeyman and by looking at Brian Bass’ record, he looks like less of a pitcher than Chad Durbin. I certainly hope Ruben Amaro, Jr. has something up his sleeve regarding a serviceable right handed outfield bat, and decent infield utility man with some offensive pop and more bullpen help. I have not lost confidence in Amaro, Jr. And sometimes feel like I am whining over bullcrap with way too high an expectation level. I wonder what Pat thinks about all this. Always enjoy his point of view which is usually correct.

brewers today made a trade that the phils should have made. they acquired shaun marcum from the blue jays for only a prospect (tho the prospect is pretty solid) . marcum has been opening day starter and only made 850k last season. two years til free agency. this trade wont make headlines but it was a VERY solid trade for the brewers

Congrats Pat. A lot of times you are the voice of reason around here.
Better to be inducted than indicted.

Jonnyboy – “Only” a prospect? The Brewers traded Brett Lawrie (who entered the season as one of baseball’s top 25 minor league prospects) for Marcum. That pretty much means that the Phillies would have had to deal Domonic Brown to get him. Are you actually saying the Phillies should have traded Brown for a guy that would have been a fourth starter for them?

    I’m Ted Bell.

Congratulations Pat Gallen. Next time you’re on the air, I’ll call you. Even though I live in Florida now.

no, not saying we shoulda got rid of brown….but…a package of singleton with another prospect would have been interesting. tho i would like to see singleton become an outfielder like some have hinted at. i guess im really just wanting to see a big move.

that being said, the big move prob needs to be for a bat and im kind of lost as to where that will come from. another top notch reliever would be nice also

Grienke takes medication for a social anxiety disorder. To me that means Philly NY boston are out.
I am hearing and it makes sense to me the Nationals. Now that would be interesting. Although the front runner will be the loser of the Lee sweepstakes ( texas or ny yankees). Does he fit the Yankees? What if Lee goes to rangers? Adding Grienke makes washington an interesting team in 2010.

Congrats Pat. I don’t really know what it means (improved access, a better parking spot at the stadium, a complete set of 2011 Phils bobbleheads,….), but your posts are more informative than most of the “legit” Philly sports writers.

I think the Phils were winners in the winter meetings because they got a decent loogy, and didn’t do anything stupid.

Grienke to the Nats is interesting, may make them somewhat respectable in 2011, competitive in 2012 and beyond. It’s probably the only big market eastern team he fits.

I liked Ted Bell’s suggestion of Lastings Milledge when first suggested, and the more I think of it, the better it sounds. Would love to see a cheap 2 yr deal with an option, really think he would mature quickly in the Phils clubhouse.

congrats Pat, I do like your posts,
I also like the idea of Lastings Milledge, also I saw somewhere the Corey Hart from the Brewers may be on the trading table, I think he would fit into the phillies,
I have said it before if you can get LM for 1 million or under a year, then if he decides to be a malcontent you can just eat the money.
What do you all think the Brewers would want for Hart?
