2011 Gameday

Gameday: Cubs (24-36) vs. Phillies (37-25)

Chicago Cubs (24-36) at Philadelphia Phillies (37-25)

Randy Wells (1-1, 5.74 ERA) vs. Kyle Kendrick (3-4, 3.78 ERA)

Time: 7:05, Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Sunny/Hot, 96
TV: Comcast SportsNet
Media: Twitter and Facebook

Jimmy Rollins returns. He’s back at the top, although he said the knee isn’t yet 100 percent, so don’t look for him to be stealing many bases this evening. Chase Utley also returns.

Otherwise, nothing newsworthy really happening today. We shift the attention to how ridiculously hot it is going to be, and how that might be a factor. Obviously, Kyle Kendrick has a short leash as it is, so with the temperatures near triple digits at gametime, he’ll have to manage. His delivery doesn’t appear to exert much energy, so that’s a good thing. Charlie Manuel said Kendrick could go 100 pitches tonight, he’s stretched out enough to go deep if he can. But that’s the question; can he?

Randy Wells shut the Phillies down last year at Wrigley (7 inn, 0 ER), but he’s nearing 6 in the ERA category this year. With “hittin’ weather” in the air, lets see if they can take advantage.

PHILLIES LINEUP:

Rollins SS, Polanco 3B, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Victorino CF, Ibanez LF, Brown RF, Sardinha C, Kendrick P

Your Gameday Beer: Pacifico

Cerveza Pacifico Clara is the real name for this beer which was brewed by three German men in Mexico in 1900. In 1954 it was purchased by Modelo (you’ve heard of them, yes), which is now owned by Anheuser Busch. Seems like they own every beer. So I guess Pacifico is like the Bud of our neighbors to the south. I think it tastes much better. I think you like it, too. – By Pat

We never know as always which Kyle is going to show up. This year he seems to be worse when he starts than the previous years. I think he was doing a good job as a long arm in the bullpen. The Phils have given Kyle plenty of chances to become a MLB starter i dont think he has it in him to be a fifth starter on a contending team at this point. Hopefully he can manage to keep them 3 or under for six innings an the offense awakens. Thats all we can really ask for from Kendrick.

Not a good feeling about this one. OK, I said it someone had to.
Look, if the Phils were scoring some runs lately, I might think different but if Kyle cannot keep the Cubs to 4 or under (what are those chances?) the Phils will probably lose this game.

Said – and hope I’m wrong.

KK will throw a great ball game tonight. He will go 6 innings and only give up 2 runs tonight. we are going to be very happy until his next start. phillies win this one 9-2

    you heard it here

I wish I had a bottle of pacifico on this warm night. But I would take 6 innings/2 earned.

Good thinking Jeff, but Howard just has no plate discipline. I feel like his home runs are accidental anymore. He just guesses anymore, its sad.

Sweet 80 foot throw to the cut off man Raul. That was a seed. A regular LFer would had it to 2nd so soon that Ramirez would have be caught in a run down.

This is just amazing. First off our offense is the most pathetic offense in baseball. 3 runs off of one bat. Nothing else. Youl let this horrible team hang around. They are bad. Madson is not the great closer. Rather see Valdez up in that spot and win the game. Then pitch him. The team is just not very good. Utley looks like he has no clue. The play of the game of course was that stop at third. bases loaded.
