The Phillies look to snap out of an offensive funk today against the Pirates at Brighthouse Field. Cliff Lee takes the hill against the Bucs.

The Phils now only have two lefty relievers in camp: Antonio Bastardo and Joe Savery. Jake Diekman, despite having a stellar Spring, will  start the year in Triple-A. In addition to Diekman, fellow lefty Raul Valdes and long-shot righty veteran Scott Elarton will also start the year in Triple A.

Phillies Lineup:

1. Shane Victorino, CF
2. Placido Polanco, 3B
3. Hunter Pence, RF
4. Jim Thome, 1B
5. Laynce Nix, LF
6. Pete Orr, SS
7. Brian Schneider, C
8. Freddy Galvis, 2B
9. Cliff Lee, P

Phillies Pitchers:
LHP Cliff Lee

Orr has actually been one of the better hitters this Spring. Of course Small Sample Size but he should do ok as a utility guy in place of Martinez.

Again, the danger of putting stock in ST stats. He’s hitting .318 with an .822 OPS. Pretty good. Last spring he hit .287 with an .834 OPS — and 5(!) triples.

In between he had this season in 2011:
        AAA .267 avg, .715 OPS (309 PAs)
        MLB .219 avg, .529 OPS (104 PAs)

        For his career:
        AAA .728 OPS (2285 PAs)
        MLB .608 OPS (659 PAs)

47 plate appearances in ST is not a good indicator of future performance.

Well I referred to the small sample size in my post. You’ll also note that I didn’t give him much of an endorsement aside from he should do ok as a utility guy in place of Martinez.

Yes, fair enough. And I agree, he should do no worse than Martinez.

I wonder if he’s related to Amanda.

Kendrick another shutout inning with 2 K’s. He’s really getting strikeouts this spring. Is it possible he’s improved? It was something he was starting to show at the end of last year. It’ll be interesting to watch.

WALKOFF PODS!!!!!! (and against a lefty, 2 outs in the 9th)

And I know I shouldn’t be too excited BUT… I chose Pods leading the team in AVG (min 50 ABs) in the Phillies Nation/TiqIQ contest for Home Opener seats… And well… that’s pretty damn close!!!!

Im thinking that they will go with Orr as the Utility guy till Mini Marts gets back.
