2012 Gameday

Gameday: Mets (16-13) vs. Phillies (14-16)

New York Mets (16-13) at Philadelphia Phillies (14-16)

Miguel Batista (0-1, 6.92) vs. Joe Blanton (3-3, 2.83)

Time: 7:05 Citizens Bank Park
TV: CSN
Weather: Showers, 63
Media: Twitter and Facebook

Mike Rizzo was fined. So that’s fun.

As for tonight’s game, Carlos Ruiz moves up to the 5-spot in the order. He has been  their most consistent – and most awesome – offensive player this year. So it appears that Charlie Manuel wants to put him in a situation to drive in runs. The bottom of the order is hurting for some production, however. Pete Orr gets the start at second base because Manuel likes his bat better right now. Can’t fault him for that move.

How about that Joe Blanton. He’s coming off the best start of his Phillies career. Can he keep it up? This is a different situation; it’s not getaway day like it was last week in Atlanta after an 11-inning game in which 28 runs were scored.

The Phillies will see Miguel Batista. If they can’t score runs off this guy, feel free to be pissed. In his only start of the season, Batista allowed six runs in 3 2/3 innings. His ERA is up near seven. The Phillies MUST tee off on him tonight.

Lineup: Rollins SS, Pierre LF, Victorino CF, Pence RF, Ruiz C, Polanco 3B, Mayberry 1B, Orr 2B, Blanton

Your gameday beer: Sly Fox Pikeland Pils

It comes in a can, is refreshing, and is relatively cheap. And it’s not a beast, a Pabst, or a big three beer. It’s Pikeland Pils, made by Sly Fox, made in Phoenixville, PA. A Northern German style Pilsner brewed with imported German Pils malt and hopped with German and Czech hops, it’s light in body, light straw in color and dry. It has won numerous medals for its great taste. Don’t be scared by the can! – By Pat

Lets see, 3 scoreless innings tonight so far, a complete game shutout last time out & 7 innings from the previous start where he gave up 2 runs (when he left the game in the 7th, there were 2 runners on base one of whom scored via a ground out). That would be an ERA of 0.942 over the past 3 games. 19.1 innings pitched, 11 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk (tonight) and 17 K’s

Cant ask for anything better than that. Plus he has a base hit!

    You go Joe

Does anybody else get irritated while they interview somebody (first base coach tonight) through an entire inning when the opponent is up? Just let me watch the ball game! I almost wished a Met would have gotten a home run to tie the game up and the cameras missed it.

So 2 (earned) runs against an Independent League scrub with a 6+ ERA. This is a baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad team.

Tonight is the smallest CBP crowd (43,821) since July 2009…still a sellout. (@magelb)

I know we have injured relievers, but our bullpen cannot hold a dam lead! WTF!

Charlie Manuel needs to be fired. He used to under manage and now he over manages. There needs to be a new direction with this team.

    • Jeff Dowder

      May 8, 2012 at 9:28 pm

What would that direction be with this group of players and the current state of the farm system?

Changing the lineup. Changing how the bullpen is managed. Changing how the batters approach pitchers. Do you know anything about baseball or do you just think the managers just watch the players play?

Heading into that inning the Phillies bullpen was the worst in the majors with a 4.86 ERA.

No there bullpen is 6.89. Almost the worst. This team sucks

I just took a look at Hamiltons stats – holy crap 36 rbi now – 18 total bases for tonight alone. 5 for 5 and he has another atbat coming.

All Petey had to do was a deep grounder or a fly ball to the outfield.. that’s all – nerp

This team is comical. I missed what happen on that run down. Why did
He throw to third. They had the f u c k dead at second. Why throw to
Third. This team outside of there starts is a AAA team. Rollins the
Toothless gap is terrible. Should of let him go. We have no
Left fielder at all. Bullpen is horrible. The Mets are nothing great
Just play hard. We suck. Like the flyers.

Soon youll be able to walk up and buy tickets the day of the game like you could in 06 and 07. fu king horrible. it is panic time now. FLA has won 7 in a row, the pen is awful. Theres really no reason to watch the games anymore after the starter leaves. or somtimes even when the starter is in.

Its hard to tell who is worse – Contreras (he did not give up anything tonight, amazing), Qualls or Schwimjim –

I remember a day when seeing Vic come to bat with men on base in the late innings used to get you excited.
Hunter, nice take on that first pitch there guy, appreciate the effort bro.

we are witnessing the beginning of the end of the greatest days of Phillies baseball. Next year we will probably lose Victorino, Hamels and Blanton. It is like watching a bus drive into a ditch. Sad.

    May 8, 2012 at 10:28 pm

Can anyone blame Charlie for leaving Blanton in too long?

Once again this team leaves me speechless, and not in a good way.
@John Matrix: I loved your post. Plus, it made me laugh which I desperately needed after this despicable performance!
