2012 Gameday

Gameday: Pirates (38-34) vs. Phillies (35-40)

Pittsburgh Pirates (38-34) vs. Philadelphia Phillies (35-40)

Erik Bedard (4-7, 4.13) vs. Vance Worley (3-4, 2.78)

TIME: 7:05, Citizens Bank Park
Weather: 71, partly cloudy
Media: Twitter and Facebook

Ryan Howard news and fireworks at CBP on the same night! Ryan Howard could start a rehab assignment Thursday if all goes well with his doctors appointment tomorrow. If he does star the rehab, he’d have 20 days max to complete it. So, the Phillies could be getting healthy again sometime after the all star break.

Chase Utley is in Lehigh Valley tonight, we’ll obviously be keeping an eye on that all night. Tomorrow could be the day that Utley makes his triumphant return to the Phillies lineup.

As for tonight, it all comes down to giving Vance Worley some run support. He hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs since early May. The Phillies seem to struggle with lefties and Erik Bedard gets the call tonight for the Pirates.

Lineup: Rollins SS, Polanco 3B, Pence RF, Ruiz C, Victorino CF, Wigginton 1B, Mayberry LF, Fontenot 2B, Worley P

Whirlwind WitbierYour Gameday Beer– Sierra Nevada Southern Hemisphere Harvest

It always excites  me when I find a new beer from Sierra Nevada. They make a darn good brew and if you’re in the Philly area, check this one out at Grey Lodge in the NE. They have it now. They hand pick fresh hops in the southern hemisphere just for this beer. And anything Sierra Nevada is a friend of mine.  -Pat Gallen

I’ll give Jimmy credit for distracting them from Fontenot. Phils back in the lead! Yay!

Got my 25 votes for Chooch in also. I heard on the radio that Utley hit a bomb tonight for the Pigs tonight.

OK: I’m thinking if Fontenot gets on base, we should PH for Worley. Otherwise, leave him in there. His pitch count is high (97), but he’s still looking pretty solid.

Looking forward to seeing Utley back tomorrow. If nothing else, he’ll be good for morale.

Schmenkman, Thanks last night for that info on”bases loaded situation”. Its hard for me to believe the P’s are that good because I only remember Luna’s HR and numerous popups and K’s. Thanks again great stuff.

I almost never agree with McCarthy, but he got one right tonight, Chooch is the first half NL MVP.

I really like the way Fontenot approaches his ABs. They need to send down Minny Mart, not Fontenot when Chase comes back.

Who would the backup SS be? That’s their problem. Martinez could hit .100 (and he’s doing his best to get there) and he’ll be on the 25 man roster.

That is a problem with Galvis done for 50 or the season. However RAJ needs to earn his paycheck and find a better UI. If you have to trade Fontenot to upgrade over Mrtinez then fine, but having Martinez 8 and pitcher 9 is a killer.

Fontenot has actually played more games at short at the major league level:
        – Martinez: 13 games, 82 innings
        – Fontenot: 50 games, 365 innings

Martinez has played many more games at short in the minors (230 vs. 31)

I’d bet that Fontenot at shortstop would be as successful as Wigginton at thirdbase.

Maybe, I haven’t seen him play there.

The samples are both small, but for what it’s worth his stats are similar to Martinez’…

Martinez: .950 FP, 4.17 range factor
Fontenot: .956 FP, 3.72 range factor
