2012 Gameday

Gameday: Brewers (44-51) at Phillies (42-54)

Milwaukee Brewers (44-51) at Philadelphia Phillies (42-54)

Zack Greinke (9-3, 3.57) vs. Cliff Lee (1-6, 3.72)

Time: 7:05, Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Mostly Sunny, 92
Media: Twitter and Facebook

The Phightin’ Phillies are coming off back-to-back dramatic wins.  Could this be the return of the old Phillies?  The energy in the ninth inning of last night’s game was electric, and the Phillies need to carry that momentum forward.  If they keep playing like that, they can slowly find their way back into wild card contention.  But for now, they can only take one game at a time.  Next up is Cliff Lee and Zack Greinke.

Greinke has been in the conversation of trade talks recently.  Greinke hasn’t pitched since July 13 because of his struggles during the month of July.  The Brewers decided to give Greinke extra rest, believing he will dominate like he had earlier in the season.  Expect a lot of strikeouts for Greinke; he averages 9.1 strikeouts per nine innings.

The Phillies’ offense and bullpen both have been better as of late.  Both the offense and bullpen have cost Lee wins in the past, so it’s time they owe him.  Lee’s been excellent in his last three starts, posting a 2.05 ERA.

Brooklyn LagerYour Gameday Beer – Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout
Today’s beer is Black Chocolate Stout by the Brooklyn Brewery (famous for its lager). As the title implies, it’s a dark sweet brew. The chocolate flavor is nearly matched by the coffee, vanilla, toffee and roasted malt undertones but is certainly the centerpiece in the 10.6% stout. This dessert beer is heavy enough, so have it in place of coffee after dinner along with a biscuit of some sort. – By Brian

This article misstates the Phillies’ record. According to and, the Phils have 43 wins, not 42. We need every win.

Wow, what looked to be a promising inning, getting Grienke to throw a lot of pitches just did a 360. Howie swings at 3-0, Ruiz swings at the second pitch and Pence swings at the first pitch. A 7 pitch inning.

Through 6, Cliff had 3 straight Greinkieish innings, 3 up 3 down. Aside from that, he thus gave up 8 hits in 3 innings. And that’s before Zack’s knock.

It’s amazing the way hits wind up bunched at times. Not just Cliff, though you tend to remember his because he’s so good at times, and they frustrate.

Helluva game for Zack so far.

It’ll be interesting to see how much people criticize the Phillies bullpen after having watched the Crew the last 2 nights.

Last night, it felt like the Phils won the game. Tonight? I’ve seen this act 1,000 times, but it still feels like I’ve never seen it before.

But it’s really not much unless Chooch does something pretty good.

Howard went for a walk to help the team?

Instead of a 10000000000000 foot homer he played to win.

AFW is in shock and may not be able to type

Just got home from my master’s class and saw the Phil’s losing 6-3. Espn game cast told me that Cliff was throwing a home run derby. So I turn on the tv and the bases are loaded a la deja vu from last night. Then Chooch unloaded! Then Pence! F’in awesome!!! It is the Phillies we all know and love! Papelbon better not blow this.

The gun had Cliff at 95 1 pitch, so mcCarthy’s hypervent at paps 96 might be based on bad radar.

High priority stuff at this particular moment, huh?
