Gameday: Phillies (36-45) at Mets (43-37)

Philadelphia Phillies (36-45) vs. New York Mets (43-37)

Vance Worely (4-4, 2.92), vs. Jon Niese (6-3, 3.55)

Time: 7:10, Citi Field

Weather: Partly Cloudy, 84

The last-place Phillies head to Citi Field to face the New York Mets, who are 3.5 games behind the Washington Nationals.  The Phillies have only won nine games since they last played the Mets, which was on May 30.  The Phillies can’t seem to find a groove as they have lost five consecutive games.

Looking to end their losing streak, the Phillies will start Vance Worley.  Since coming off the disabled list, Worley is 1-2 with a 2.70 earned run average.

Worley’s counterpart, Jon Niese, is coming off a tremendous month of June where he went 3-1 with a 1.89 ERA.  As of Monday, the Mets’ rotation is  fourth in the majors in ERA for starting pitchers.  Johan Santana and the emergence of R.A Dickey are the two main reasons, but Niese has also been a contributing factor.

We’re officially halfway through the season, and the Phillies have the worst record through 81 games since they went 23-58 in 1997.  Also, the Mets are 6-3 against the Phillies this season.  Things haven’t been good for the Phillies, but let’s not forget their reputation as a second half team.

Lineup: Rollins SS, Polanco 3B, Utley 2B, Ruiz C, Pence RF, Victorino CF, Wigginton 1B, Mayberry LF, Worley P

Your gameday beer: Corona

Why not celebrate the peak of the summer with an ice cold Corona. Nothing beats one of these on the beach, by the pool side, or while tending to a grill stacked with your favorite meats. Lime or no lime, it’s a refreshing reminder of the summer for many. Enjoy the next two months, because they’ll go by so quickly. -By Pat
