Gameday: Braves (62-49) vs. Phillies (49-59) – Phillies Nation

Gameday: Braves (62-49) vs. Phillies (49-59)

Atlanta Braves (62-46) vs. Philadelphia Phillies (49-59)

Ben Sheets (3-1, 1.46) vs. Vance Worley (6-6, 3.63)

Time: 7:05 PM, Citizens Bank Park

Raul Valdes was recalled from Lehigh Valley after a stint on the DL, Hector Luna was shipped back north.

Domonic Brown makes an appearance in the 2-hole this evening as Charlie Manuel tries to find the perfect lineup. Before the game, I asked Manuel where he envisions Brown hitting, and he said fifth or sixth in a perfect world. I like him or Schierholtz batting second. Both seem to have good plate discipline and a steady eye. Brown CAN provide some more speed, which Charlie likes in that spot.

Another note, the Phillies sellout streak could end tonight. A source close to the team tells me that they’re expecting around 41,000, but could get to around 43K depending on today’s sales. Very interesting! Keep an eye out.

Lineup: Rollins SS, Brown LF, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Mayberry CF, Schierholtz RF, Frandsen 3B, Schneider C, Worley P

Today’s Gameday Beer: Modelo

Modelo is refreshing enough that it’s way better than Coors or the like, and it won’t set you back at the register. It’s certainly comparable to Corona, which I find refreshing on a hot, summer day like today. Enjoy your BBQ with family and friends on this awesome day in the Philly area! – Pat Gallen

I like having Brown up higher in the line up. Hoping he can prove his effectiveness up there.

Start Kratz!! Schneids does not help us, future wise.

Also, do we have Herndon under contract next season?

@DaveP – I suppose it really doesn’t matter much if your #4 hitter is in a funk.

A 7 pitch inning for Sheets – I’m sure he appreciates the breather

I’m surprised to hear that the sellout streak ended tonight. I thought it ended a while ago. They stopped talking about it back in early June.

And the sell out streak ends.

    I hate always being right.

Ruben will be gone in a years time.

At least thats one prediction I will be happy to be right about.

What a terrible team top to bottom.

Was funny yesterday they pitched to get to Howard in the last inning.
When teams pitch around your oder to get to your clean up hitter its an issue. Has been an issue for years though and no one seems to care.

Do a shot Brooksie and hope the phils can somehow finish ahead of the no account Mets this year. Its going to be close as they are 2 of the worst teams in baseball fighting it out to suck less.

One more time Andrew – recall a few years ago that Howard OWNED the Braves – this year, 6 games 22 atbats, 0 runs, 3 hits, 1 rbi and 1 extra base hit.
Oh yes, 10 strike outs (none this game!).
Is the Braves pitching that much better? Nahhh….

Does the Phils coaching staff have ANY clue as to how to pitch to McCann? Somebody, somewhere has been getting him out. Not taking anything away from his ability, but come on, the guy is a one man wrecking ball against us. 2 for 3 tonight and just into the 7th inning yet.

Bob, don’t forget McCann is having an off season. His average vs the rest of the league is close to .200.

Phils are now 2-8 vs the Braves this year with the only 2 wins coming back in early May in Atlanta.

Its the cheap stuff tonight Brooks. Evan Williams.

    Seems fitting for this team.

Somehow though I will choose to watch every game instead of turning over to the olympics or a movie.
And at least Brown is playing.
Again he should have been since opening day 2011.

If he had hit .150 for the last year and a half it wouldnt have hurt anything and at least wed have known how good he is.

Its obvious he has athletic ability but he lacks common sense baseball instincts.

Brooksie and Manny still think the P’s will make the playoffs???

Nope. My final hope was killed after the Braves’ swept us immediately following our series vs the Brewers. That was harsh.
