2012 Gameday

Gameday: Phillies (47-58) vs Diamondbacks (54-51)

Philadelphia Phillies (47-58) vs Arizona Diamondbacks (54-51)

Kyle Kendrick (4-8, 4.45) vs Ian Kennedy (9-8, 4.20)

Time: 7:05 PM, Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Upper 80’s/Lower 90’s, humid
Media: Twitter and Facebook

Before tonight’s game, Charlie Manuel was seen being called into a meeting during media time. Shortly thereafter, Joe Blanton–tonight’s scheduled starter–was not seen with the rest of the team. Then news came out of a trade that sent Blanton to the Dodgers.

So in his place on the mound tonight will be Kyle Kendrick, who currently owns MLB’s longest scoreless inning streak at 21. 13 of those innings are as a starter. Still, though, his ERA this year is well above 4, and a spot start like this could mean a poor outing on such short notice. However, Kendrick has done well in situations similar to this before, so it’s tough to predict how he will pitch tonight.

Opposing him will be righty Ian Kennedy, a guy who has fallen off considerably after his outstanding year last year where he finished 4th in the Cy Young Award voting. His ERA is currently 4.20 (last year it was 2.88). The last time he pitched in Philly, he gave up three runs in three innings and took the loss back in August of 2011.

Lineup: Rollins SS, Schierholtz RF, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Mayberry CF, Brown LF, Frandsen 3B, Schneider C, Kendrick P

Orval Trappist AleYour Gameday Beer – Orval Trappist Ale

I’ve said it before, monks know how to brew beers and this Belgian Pale Ale is no exception. First it hits you with a apple/pear scent then a complex taste of citrus, caramel, and earthy yeast – all in a creamy buttery consistency. Wow. I hear it goes well with Thai food, but this is certainly one you can drink alone. – By Brian

I’m looking forward to the Phillies new advertising campaign: “Come to the game, you won’t have to listen to Tom McCarthy.”

If KK can go six giving up 3 runs or less it would be a success. Almost no notice and has been doing relief work recently.

Morris, I spit good bourbon everywhere after reading that proposed Phillies ad. Classic.

T Mac is in top form tonight. That “Let’s pause to hear the welcome the fans give to Dom Brown for his return to Citizen’s Bank Park” was classic. And then the 5 minute discussion about his frat brother “Scrapple.” Just beautiful.

Here’s something to watch for the next 2 months. If Michael Martinez can get enough at-bats, he has a pretty good shot at the worst batting average in the modern era.

I really hope can land one or two of the players they claimed and they can then land a CF>

Juan Pierre has definitely been a bright spot this season – a diamond in the rough.

pop ups great at bats for a guy that kept on jamming the left handed hitters…… you would think that they would have thought that through…… obviously not
