Jimmy Rollins is in the lineup tonight. And how do you feel about that? He was given a talk-to by Charlie Manuel about once again failing to run out a pop up in the Mets series. Manuel said Rollins “manned up.”  It’s unlikely he’ll ever learn from his mistakes, but Charlie probably should have benched him a game just to send a message. Not that it matters, but with a team of youngsters surrounding Rollins, he should be showing some more leadership qualities.

I’ve gotten into arguments with people about the whole “leadership” thing, but I do feel it exists. He is the elder statesman and players look up to him. Rollins’ longevity has made him one of the best shortstops in the game, and over a long period. But when he has these letdowns, it drains an already struggling team. Manuel said it himself, that he believes it could affect the rest of the team. My thought is, if you’re going to make millions playing a kids game, you should be going hard most of the time. Those few times he completely dogs it will always stand out.

And still no Domonic Brown, not sure what the issue is. If it’s his knee, it was clearly worse than he was letting on. But more injuries are stunting his growth.

LINEUP: Rollins SS, Frandsen 3B, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Wigginton LF, Mayberry CF, Kratz C, Martinez RF, Halladay P

Can you believe summer is nearly through? If you’re going out, go out in style with a taste summer ale from Samuel Adams. As you know, it’s always a good decision. Put the burgers on the grill, sear the steaks, and cut up some potatoes. Enjoy the final days of the summer season. -Pat Gallen

Thank god Jimmy pop up is leading off.

Too bad no other team will eat that contract.
Just another bad deal that was so unneeded.

Oh well GM AFW has seen it all coming from a mile away.

Still waiting on Phillies management to offer me Ruben Minayas job.

Very fair deal — in fact Rollins is outperforming the contract this year.

Why do we see .130 hitting Martinez in the lineup again?
Doc has given up 7 base runners in 4 innings, formula for defeat if he keeps this up and with 3 walks already, it doesn’t look good.

Eric Kratz is a tough guy, not a posey. And I don’t know but I think Halladay is sick or something, he hasn’t thrown a 90mph pitch yet and looks redder than his hat.

    Something is not right.

Doc + Atlanta humidity and heat = early exit. Man the Braves are spanking us this year. Get them next time, Doc.

Doc’s inconsistancy has been a real thorn this year. Hopefully, the Phils can come back on this one but he really dug the whole deep.

Huh – I was just about to post when will Uggla get on his tear? He usually rides this horse for almost a quarter of the season to bring his average up to .250-.260 with close to 30 some hrs… and shlooom!

This is aomething that the kool aid drinkers and Ruben Minaya dont grasp.

If you lost one of your primma donnas or sacred cows.

    There would be another player.
Whether Glavis , Kratz, Fransend etc etc

There wouldnt be a hole at SS or 1b or 2b.

You have to have these guys to win and be successful.

And hoarding big contracts for old guys is a recipe for disaster.

    Way to go Kratz!

Brooks, You can count on Papelbon to make you late for the Chicken Dinner, he is the slowest pitcher on earth. He almost always gets you the dinner, and it’s always cold by the time you get it.

Picked up a game on a lot of teams in the WC race tonight (almost a perfect scoreboard for us)… Great night. Great way to start this series. Kratz standing up Jones was quite a statement play. There is still fight left in this team.

      August 31, 2012 at 11:06 pm

Chuck, that was stupendous! Jones gave it everything he had and Kratz took it all. What a play.

Awesome win! Go away Braves! The realist in me says the season is over; the dreamer in me says we are only 8 out of the WC. Cue the Basil Hayden and let’s enjoy the ride.
