Gameday: Phillies (73-74) at Mets (66-80) – Phillies Nation

Gameday: Phillies (73-74) at Mets (66-80)

Philadelphia Phillies (73-74) at New York Mets (66-80)

Cliff Lee (5-7, 3.36) vs. R.A. Dickey (18-5, 2.68)

Time: 7:10 p.m, Citi Field
Weather: Partly Cloudy, 75
Media: Twitter and Facebook

The Phillies took a huge step backwards in Houston.  They had a chance to make up ground in the Wild Card, but dropped three out of four to the worst team in baseball.  The Phillies are back below the .500 mark and are four games behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the second Wild Card spot.  Tonight, the Phillies head to New York and face a team that has beaten up on them all year.

Cliff Lee has a hot hand, going 3-0 with a 1.73 ERA in his last six starts.  Hopefully he can continue the hot streak, unlike Kyle Kendrick.  Lee will be opposed by R.A. Dickey, who will surely be in the Cy Young conversation this year.

As painful as the Astros series was, the season is not over.  The Phillies proved once that they aren’t dead, and they’ll have to do it again.

Fire Island's Red Wagon IPAYour Gameday Beer – Fire Island’s Red Wagon IPA

Tonight’s selection comes to us from Fire Island, NY, that crazy place off Long Island where cars are prohibited. And it is this quirky phenomenon that give us the name of the beer since red wagons are what locals use to transport goods around the island. Ah, simple times call for a simple beer. This golden beer is balanced with floral and fruity hops and is perfect for a September evening. Have it with some grilled pork chops.

We have to best Dickey. And not let his ball ruin the timing of our swing for the series.

Judging from the last series. I dont think the timing could be any worse.

    Maybe Dickey will help.

I was saying the Phillies could afford to lose 3 games.
They used all 3 up in the Astros series.

    Cant lose anymore.

Jimmy reaches first on a strike out and gets around the bases for the go ahead run.

    Way to hustle!

The above scripter is not AFW, it is mearly a imitation, someone using his handle.. Phillies baseball? And he’s speaking of Jimmy Rollins??
Great thing is that Dickey is at a 74 pitch count while Lee, aside from striking out the world is in the mid 50’s.
I like it, keep it up and SCORE SOME RUNS!

Anyone else recall fearing the bat of Jason Bay?
Former ROY, 3 time AS, knocked in 100 plus rbi 4 times, hit over 30 hrs 4 times – and then, he became a Mut. Injuries, lack of power – his average has gone down since he came to the big sleazy, he started out at .259, then .245 and this – .155.
    Poor Jason Bay.

Yes, unless there are runners in scoring position, in which case he’s a beast.

I guess Howard is now worth 2 outs instead of jsut one vs lefties.

    If this isnt addressed.

    Its really a hopeless cause.

And you cannot win with it.

Sorry kool aid drinkers but tis a fact.

That’s vintage enough for me. Might be Cliff’s best outing since that 10 inning shutout earlier in the year. Still with an outside shot at a sub 3 ERA. Gonna be tough, but not impossible.

I am facing cliff this week in fantasy semis.
Of course its a 2 start week.

That should be good to boost him a little.

    Winner winner chicken dinner

Give me a break with the Mccarthy Wheeler speil about Howards RBIs.

when its 10-4 and in the 7th 8th or 9th and the other team leaves whoever in yes then hes a beast hes the best.
But if its 4-3 and runners on 2nd and 3rd and two outs and its the 7th or 8th or 9th inning the other team brings in a left hander. Any left hander will do and its over.

I dont hate Ryan Howard or the people who think hes a star etc etc.
But I do watch all the games.

And it is startling to me that in real life the people I know see these things.
But the TV broadcast team and some of the fans here seem to jsut not care or notice.
I never understood the blind homerism.

A player is what he is. And I call it as I see it.

If its a close game tomorrow late innings and they bring in a left handed reliever he has no chance . Even against the scrubs on teams like the Astros.

And its not a 2012 injury thing.
It was the same in 2011. It is jsut more pronounced this year.

Yes, you call it as you see it. About eight million times.

Did it ever occur to you that other people just see it differently? Did you ever stop to consider how annoying it can be to have the same diatribe clogging up space all the time?

I find some of your remarks pertinent, but even ice cream can get sickening when it’s constantly placed on your table.
