2012 Gameday

Gameday: Rockies (56-80) at Phillies (66-71)

Colorado Rockies (56-80) at Philadelphia Phillies (66-71)

Jeff Francis (5-4, 5.73) vs. Cliff Lee (4-7, 3.52)

Time: 7:05 p.m. Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Mostly Sunny, 87
TV: Comcast SportsNet
Media: Twitter and Facebook

The Phillies and Rockies open up a weekend series at Citizens Bank Park.  The Rockies have struggled more than the Phillies have this season.  It hasn’t helped that Troy Tulowitzki has been out most of the season due to injury.

Jeff Francis has more wins than Cliff Lee, but his ERA is just over two points higher than Lee’s.  Francis doesn’t walk too many guys; in 86.1 innings, he only has 18 walks.  All the damage comes off the bat, as he’s allowed 110 hits in those innings.  That’s 11.5 hits per nine innings.  With all the strikes he throws, the Phillies need to come out swinging.

Lee has been red hot lately.  In his last four starts, he has a 1.91 ERA.  In those 28.1 innings, he struck out 31 and walked just two.

Who else is red hot?  John Mayberry.  Mayberry is batting .369 with 4 homers and 12 RBI in his last 17 games.

Your Gameday Beer– Polar

Polar lager pours with a clear, pale-golden hue and it kind of like the Bud of Venezuela. RateBeer and BeerAdvocate give it crappy grades, and you might be hard pressed to find it here in America. The bottle itself is worth the find alone. It’s 5% alcohol, so it’ll get ya tipsy after a few. Hot dogs with a few of these sounds good. –by Pat

Phils start 13 straight games vs teams with terrible records. A strong showing here should be enough of a boost to #1 put them over .500 at home and #2 over .500 overall.
Looks like Martinez is carrying that message forward.

Just curious! Why is Wigginton batting 4th? Based on the performances from the past few months, I would certainly have batted Mayberry and Kratz ahead of Wiggington.

DavidE i was bellyaching to my son about exactly that! the way i figure it cholly will realize somewhere around december that when he gives howie a night off and a lefty is pitching that kratzihammer should bat cleanup! it took about til the middle to end of may to realize chooch was good enough to bat cleanup! maybe a different manager would think about that between bubbles!

    Winner winner chicken dinner

    Cardinals Brewers about to start.

Brew crew wins WC is down to 7!

This is why I buy the baseball package.

If this was 4 or 5 games Id really like the phils chances.

and as I said before I totaly like thier chances in a year like this getting in late with nothing to lose.
Than winning 102 and choking to the pressure in round 1.

But it would still take a miracle. Have to win every game
