Cliff Lee (2-1, 2.83) vs. James McDonald (2-2, 4.12)

TIME: 1:05, Citizens Bank Park
Comcast Sportsnet, home of Phillies Nation TV
Weather: 64, sunny
Media: Twitter and Facebook

Last night was a total bummer. Can it get any better? The offense is a mess, despite both Chase Utley and Ryan Howard going yard against lefties last night, and it seems when the starters do well, the bullpen does not – or vice versa. They can’t play a complete game, and they haven’t in what seems like ages.

Lineup: Rollins SS, Frandsen 3B, Utley 2B,  Howard 1B, Nix RF, Brown LF, Carerra CF, Kratz  C, Lee P.

This just sounds like a fun beer, and it was give a perfect 100 by Rate Beer. It is a jet black, dry hopped Imperial Stout, extremely rich and full flavored with malt and chocolate followed by a bright dry hopped aroma. It’s also 11.7 % ABV, so tread carefully. Although, with the way the Phillies are playing, a stronger beer is now a necessity.

Go Phillies!

    Another must win game.

    Todays over/ unders.

Number of times Rollins gets thrown out on the bases ( assuming he gets on) is 1

number of games Charlie has left as manager of the Phillies is 5

I agree Andrew. I made that same comment at the ballpark last Saturday night after I woke up. I figure Elmer will be done by the end of April. This “it’s early” talk doesn’t hold water. The same people said the same thing last year while they blew so many early games that they created a hole too big to climb out of. They also said, “wait till Howard and Utley get back.” Well now what’s the excuse? Wait till’ Ruiz and Young get back?

Heck, he’ll be gone by the start of April.

Charlie would be a great manager for a team like the Nats or Braves.

Really good young hungry teams. Like the phils where 2007-2010

A team of has beens who are pretty much the opposite of young and hungry is nto a team for him.

Sticking by his guys at this point just isnt working. Hasnt worked for a long time.

Hopefully the new manager geets in thier asses and heaven forbid would bench them for stuff like what Rollin did on the base paths last night.

The Phillies are protesting Martes triple last night.

The phillies want it ruled an error.

Come on Phillies concentrate on winning a game. Who cares about official scoring?

No. I don’t think any manager would bench a player for hustling and trying to make things happen when the offense is struggling.

By the way the Phillies are younger now than any time since 2008.

Did you just see what happened when Utley went home there?

And what happened when Rollins did his thing last night?

I guess Phillies broadcast and media doesnt pick up that Rollins pulled a little league move last night?

I am tired of the guys who dont play the game right.

Rollins on the base path was a disgrace Wednesday.

Not so much getting thrown out at second but the play at home.

If Utley pulls the crap move Rollins pulled last night righ tthere.

this team doesnt score that other run.

Believe it or not on this team a run is worth its weight in gold.

the line up is that poor.

Dont need ignorance on the base paths.

by your lead off hitter and former MVP no less LOL

If it wasnt common place. Not running to first etc etc.

    Id chalk it up.

But its common for this team

The Phils will lose every game that the bull pens are an issue.

    Every one

    Get rid of Charlie Manuel.

    April 25, 2013 at 3:45 pm

    And its over

    so sick of this pen

what a difference a team like the pirates are.

please break up the core of this line up

and try to get relief pitchers for the relics if anyone will give up any pitching for them

He even leaves Lee in for 122 pitches.

    way to many

    will show up next game

but it still doesnt matter LOL

Charlie may be gone by tomorrow .

    sad times

The Pirates are without thier primary set up man and Grilli thier closer today.

But does it matter? Will the Phils stage a late rally?

Maybe an utley and Brown solo homer is possible to tie it is about it

They just brought in a guy with a 10.24 ERA in a 2 run game
yea the pen is not good

Charlie got the boot in what may be his last game

Why do you say that? I haven’t even heard anything about him being on the hot seat. No, the Phillies organization will let this year run its course with a “let’s just see what happens” approach. 90+ losses is a real possibility. It is an actual shame. I don’t know if a manegerial change would make a difference regardless. Sometimes it does, but I just don’t know. How can a new manager make guys hit, or make the bullben not suck? Ruben should go first honestly. That will never happen though.

The problem with Ruben is hes been doing things that will cause long term damage the last few years. It goes past just his normal incompetence.

Yes he is the reason not Charlie.

But firing the GM isnt happening and doesnt stir anything up.

Revere made the greatest catch I have ever seen but except for that highlight reel play, he has been a total disappointment for the Phillies. Basically, the Phillies are getting the offensive production out of center field that they are getting out of the pitcher’s spot.

Howard has picked it up the last couple of days but generally has been disappointing after the last half of last year and the spring. While his average isn’t bad, he isn’t paid to hit singles.

If last year showed us anything, it’s a long season. Teams have bad stretches. Somebody is going to have to step up in the bullpen. I can see Bastardo becoming the 8th inning man. I haven’t given up on Adams yet.

Until Revere starts hitting, I think you have to platoon him in centerfield with Mayberry. I guess Chooch will be back soon and that will improve both the offense.

Right now, the Phillies have too many easy outs.
