Gameday: Royals (2-2) at Phillies (1-3)

Kansas City Royals (2-2) vs. Philadelphia Phillies (1-3)

Luis Mendoza vs. John Lannan

Time: 7:05 PM, Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Sunny/Wind, 48
Media: Twitter and Facebook

Yesterday’s performance from the bullpen was embarrassing.  The Phillies will try to rebound against the Royals tonight.

John Lannan will be making his Phillies debut. Lannan is 2-5 with a 6.49 career ERA at Citizens Bank Park.

Mendoza is a sinker ball pitcher, so expect a lot of ground balls from the Phillies’ offense.

It’s possible, perhaps even likely, that Manuel hadn’t announced the lineups before this had to be posted. Give Amanda a break.

Love the way McCarthy reads the copy saying Mickey D’s will give a C note to whatever the lady’s name was if the Phils smack a homer in the designated inning.

100 for a single would seem more economically commensurate with the way the last what, 7 innings now? have gone.

And still another scoreless frame in da books.

    This too might pass.

  6. Ken Bland

    April 6, 2013 at 7:44 pm

well, let’s see….3 Royals who have pitched no hitters.

I’d put my chances of getting this before the Phils score at zero.

But, that said, who don’t know Bret Saberhagen.

I’d say after that at bat that we now have a new definition of the Mendoza line. It’s now shorter tan Freddie Patek.

Wonder if Dennis Leonard ever twirled a no-no.

No, well, not as bad a shift, and RyHo still hits smack dab into it.

    Don’t it figger.

See if that sparks something. Franly, this game to this point is evoking mass lethargy, and unfortunately, Jimmy flies out on the first pitch.

    Maybe lethargy was too kind.

Revere at first, 2 outs, and the result is a first pitch flyout.

    Trend of the times.

Lannan is definitely up in the zone this inning. But I suspect he’s got a 2nd wind before calling it a night.

A night at the plate to forget for Young Mike. Even with a base hit.

Ken, the offense is tough to watch tonight. Like slogging through a bog filled with taffy.

tough? what is this, understatement night at the old ballpark?

      Brutal squared.

I personally feel a hangover, letdown, whatever is the right word from yesterday, and I’m not exaggerating my importance in the equation, but I wonder iof the ballclub feels it. Plus, Mendoza has pitched better than I expected.

Lannan’s done. 1st pitch double by Francouer tells you all you need to know after last year’s up inning.

Course lethargy can turn on a dime, and the crowd could wake somebody up, so match that against the Royals pen, and there’s your sense for the rest of the game.

I’m about hope tonight. The feeling’s not there. As always, we’ll see.

That AL Central is modestly underrated. Juggernaut, weak sister, and 3 pretty decent ballclubs. They should have some fun competing this summer. I have a hard time seeing the Royals not being competitive this year. Not sure how to quite define competitive, but they’ve been fun to watch after they got untracked yesterday. .

Up, but good movement, and Butler still s,macks a singleoff Adams. That’s a good matchup, terrific pitcher V terrific hitter.

Time for another in the never ending series of stranger things have happened, I just can’t name them.

Two Phillie hits as we go B8, and the good guys trail by 2 massive digits.

Let’s play let’s pretend. Say you’re a beat reporter covering this game. You know the drill. Get your game story down, and take a chance on no turnaround late dramatics that kills your hard work. Take a chance.

Two hit in the last 14 innings.

And as they say in the trade., -30-/

Less than 40K tonight at the old ballpark.

And those unappreciative fools that don’t be appreciating the 10 fold payroll increase over the last 10 years are screaming for a payroll to crack the lux tax.

    Business for Dummies.

…and Bastardo walks the lead-off hitter…(sigh). Hoping for a ninth inning 2008 type rally. (Feigns a smile).

    Miracle time.

    And do I mean miracle.

Gonzalez, Callsion and Allen comin’ up, Phils trail by 2.

    Get after it now.

Every single time the Phils walk a leadoff man, I have a heart attack, and the pother team hiots a 5 run homer.

Watch the usual opposite happen here.

    Although at 2-0, maybe?
