Sunshine, blue skies, and a hard sun to read. I guyess.

At least we still get to see the Phils at triple play depth.

    Oh, brother

Way to start the night. Phillies keep finding ways to lose.

Maybe they’ll go into the 8th or 9th tied and give Charlie a chance at the hat trick…losing all three games due to bullpen mismanagement.

    • Steve Bosell

      April 17, 2013 at 6:50 pm

You don’t win many games when you have only two baserunners. There’s are a lot of problems with this team that are far worse than this tired perception of Charlie’s bullpen mismanagement:

They haven’t scored a single run before the sixth inning in a full week.

They’ve scored a total of eight runs on this current road trip (5 games so far).

Their leadoff hitter has a .258 OBP.

As a team, they’re hitting .136/.186/.384 (worst in baseball) against lefthanded pitching.

      • hk

        April 17, 2013 at 7:13 pm

You are right that this team has bigger problems. That should not absolve the manager from blame for his bullpen mismanagement. And, it’s not a tired perception. In fact, it’s one that became more and more relevant as the team’s talent advantage has dissipated over the past few years.

  4. Rudy Canoza

    April 17, 2013 at 6:35 pm

Small sample size, but the Phillies’ outfield is statistically the second least productive outfield in baseball so far this season. The only OF that has been worse is Miami.

    April 17, 2013 at 6:56 pm

You make it sound like in order to win, you have to score more runs than the other team

    • chuck schreiber

      April 17, 2013 at 7:38 pm

You do Bob!! Please tell Cholly that so he can get “The Big Lummox, er Piece” out of any starting lineup versus a southpaw. It’s just an out batting cleanup. Try putting Young at first and Fransen at third or bringing up Ruf to play first versus lefties. It doesn’t and hasn’t for three years or more now to keep running him out versus lefties.

      • chuck schreiber

I just hope they score a run tonight.

    Maybe 4 hits too?

If anyone was offended by any previous rants today.

They are for Ruben and the Phillies franchise and management.

No one on here in particular.

If you want to think this line up is murderers row its your perogative.

    Leake is very pedestrian.

  12. Ken Bland

    April 17, 2013 at 7:46 pm

It’s starting to hit a point of amazeing to me that with so many people anxious to blame so many people that I don’t think I’ve heard one person express their anger at Chooch for this whatever you wanna call it. I mean I assume there was some stupidity involved in his popping whatever he popped. What certainly amazes me is that I recall writing that I was “:minimally”
    concerned about his absence. ooops.

  13. Andrew From Waldorf

    April 17, 2013 at 7:51 pm

Chooch wa trying to carry this sorry offense last year.

Was ridiculous for him to ever be hitting 4th

Kenny thier pitcher just hit it over reveres head

This may get very ugly here.

    • Ken Bland

      April 17, 2013 at 7:55 pm

You know what will probably happen now? They’ll be getting killed, and jut go up there with a WTF attitude, and score some meaningless runs. Lose like 9-3 or something.

Now, we know what won’t happen, but that’s what it feels like.

  14. George

I’m so sick of this pathetic display of pathetic baseball. They need to start at the top and get rid of Charlie. These players need a freaking wake up call. It’s embarrassing that they can’t score a damn run

  16. Tracey

    April 17, 2013 at 7:58 pm

Ugh. Well, at least we don’t have to worry about the Phils losing another game 1-0, because they’re already down 4-0.

  17. Ken Bland

    April 17, 2013 at 7:59 pm

    hey Andrew,

    Before you split for Seinfeld…..

Phils OBP is 26 points below league average going in, .318 to ,291. If Phils were at league average, they’d have 34 more baserunners than they do.

So seriously, if they did have those 24 extra runners, whatould their record be after these first 14 decisions.

    Serious question.

    • Ken Bland

      April 17, 2013 at 8:01 pm

      34, not 24 more.

      • chuck schreiber

        April 17, 2013 at 8:53 pm

Who do you think would knock those extra runners in?? Del Ennis no longer plays for them.

    • Tracey

      April 17, 2013 at 8:03 pm

No guarantee they could turn those base runners into RBIs

  18. Andrew From Waldorf

    April 17, 2013 at 8:03 pm

The manager and some hitters lack of respect for the walk really started all this for me.

Of rapping players and managers and hitting.

We REALLY miss Burrell and Werth who actually worked counts and took pitches.

    Now its just utley.

We are down 4-0 anyone leading off an inning

Id prefer a walk over a homer.

But we know certain “hero” players will be swinging for the fences

And yes if its 16-0 Reds

the phillies will put up 8 to lose 16-8

    • Ken Bland

      April 17, 2013 at 8:10 pm

Well, you didn’t answer my question, though its just guesswork. But hopefully, it speaks to

cycles, although ya have to wonder about this bunch. But being as its probably a phase, it

speaks to a number of possibilities, mostly positive. Giving it casual thought, my wild guess

      would be 8-5.

  19. Andrew From Waldorf

    April 17, 2013 at 8:04 pm

Lanan’s got nothing. He looked like he was eager to be taken out.

  21. Ken Bland

    April 17, 2013 at 8:05 pm

Here’s an ironic fact. :Lannan threw what, 47 pitches that inning. Not necessarily reliable sources report the record for most pitches in an inning was Steve Trachsel with 61. I guess that’s technically 1 pitch away from irony/

    Tracey makes a point

Would these base runners have been driven in?

On base and OPS are my pet peeves.

    you know this though kenny

I get more excited for a walk than a homer.

Have since 93 when I watched a team walk and work counts almost win a world series

    save not having a closer

    • Ken Bland

      April 17, 2013 at 8:18 pm

Course not. That’s the guess of the question. I figured some, that’s why I said they’d have won 2 more. Hell, could be as many as 4 or 5, but we all know baserunners around here tend to delay commercial breaks and not much else.

By the wayt, on the topic of RISP, one exhibition game this year, the Braves were 9-9 with RISP like midway through a game. Spring or not, that’s something.

    • Ken Bland

No [pitcher has ever hit for the cycle]. However, Jimmy Ryan, who played primarily in CF, is the only player to hit for the cycle and pitch in the same game. It was on July 28, 1888 in the game Cubs vs Detroit Wolverines. They won 21-17

  30. "Big Ed" Delahanty

    April 17, 2013 at 8:21 pm

I retract my earlier statement. The Reds are slaughtering us tonight. Good God! I know it is early in the season, but this team needs to get firing on at least more than two cylinders. Yikes.

    • Glutenous

      April 17, 2013 at 8:32 pm

LIke you said, its way early, and even in successful seasons the Phillies have gotten off to notoriously slow starts, but man does this season ever have the makings of a long, pitiful one in the early going. I had a cautious optimism coming in which has quickly gone by the wayside. I’m not expecting much out of this team right now.

I think what we need to do is appreciate seeing the last of Chase, and probably Cliff in a Phillies uniform. If the Phillies are 20 games under at the break I think they will be gone. I exaggerate a bit but not much. So whenever we see the man come up with a clutch hit, excellent hustle play, etc, all while looking smooth as hell, or when we wee Cliff strikeout the side then run full speed back into the dugout, let’s not take it for granted.

  31. Andrew From Waldorf

    • "Big Ed" Delahanty

Andrew, MLB.com has it at 9.95 and climbing. Unlike William Wallace, I’m crying out “Mercy!” gotta turn it off and study for my grad final tomorrow. Maybe if I don’t watch, we will have a massive comeback, and win…in a parallel universe.

  32. Tracey

Changing over to the Sixers game. They have absolutely nothing to play for and I would still rather watch them right now than the Phillies. They are up by 10 at the end of the 1st! The same margin by which the Phils are behind!

  34. Andrew From Waldorf

    April 17, 2013 at 8:40 pm

    2 hits through 4 innings

Do you think the scouting report is out that Howard cant hit a slider in the dirt?

    • Glutenous

      April 17, 2013 at 8:49 pm

The scouting report is that he can’t hit anything that is not a fastball right over the middle of the plate, belt-high, and thrown by a right-handed pitcher, and WILL NOT take a pitch that is a ball. Also, It takes him as long to get to first as it takes the kid down in Lakewood to circle the bases, 14.1 seconds.

Charlie and Ruben dont like taking walks.

Phils will be 6.5 games out of first place in Mid April by the time the torture stops.
Should we start speculating how soon it will be before Cholly is let go? If they are 10 games out of first by the end of April? Or should we say more like 6 or 7 games under .500?
