Utley to DL with Mild Oblique Strain

Chase Utley felt a pain in his rib cage during BP a few days ago, and that pain will land him in the DL. Utley has been diagnosed with a very mild Grade 1 oblique strain.

GM Ruben Amaro commented, saying “the recovery for this type of injury should take between 2-4 weeks. We do believe and hope that Chase will be ready to play in Philadelphia within 15 days. We are being cautious with this injury as it is a tricky one and want to make sure it isn’t an issue for him throughout the season.”

The fact that it’s the strain is being called “very mild” is a good sign; but the fact that yet another player will hit the disabled list is not. Add him to the list of Halladay, Ruiz, Lannan, and Adams.

“but the fact that yet another player will hit the disabled list is not.”

That’s true enough. And it’s not like the players going down don’t include some who offer plus contributions, maybe even all. But with the exception of Lannan, the others aren’t mid 20 guys on the way up, so they’re losing less than they might have.

The depth as a whole is better than a year ago. The injured players are a year older. I think grin and bear it application is pretty applicable here. Pulled from context, this could be a classic statement, but the losses of Doc, Chase, Howard, like a year ago isn’t as catastrophic this year. So it seems, anyway.

Whether they decide to keep him or trade him, they’d be dumb to push this injury. If it takes a month, let him heal. Freddy can fill in capably.

The biggest takeaway from this? Chase learned his lesson. He was up front with his injury with management and pulled himself from the line up when he knew something was off. Took a while but I think he realizes he’s not a superhero…at least, not anymore.

Possibly. None of us know what he felt, either now or previously, but another explanation may be that, unlike previous aches and pains, this one hurt too much for him to think he could play through it and be effective.

Just a friendly reminder that this year, in AAA, Michael Martinez is hitting: .226/.297/.274

That’s right folks, he’s got a lusty .571 OPS. In AAA. Against AAA pitchers.

    Carry on.

Mini Mart is kinda like that mosquito that keeps buzzing around your ear when you’re trying to sleep. Try as you might, you just can’t seem to get rid of him.

Michael effin Martinez. Does he have pictures of Rube and a donkey? After the Nats, we have 4 against the Red Sox…why not bring up someone that’s an actual threat with a bat that can DH like Ruf? Why not bring up an actual prospect like Hernandez and givre him a cup of coffee in the Show? How many times does MM have to prove he’s not a major league level player before idiot Rube gets a effin clue?!?

Injury “expert” Stephania Bell on ESPN’s Fantasy Focus said of the oblique injury that Utley has “these are a 40-day issue… to get an MRI makes me think that it’s serious enough to cause him to miss more than the 15-day minimum”

I’m not even going to mention the subject’s name because the whole situation with him is laughable. He shouldn’t be on our roster…period. The move in and of itself is embarrassing. At some point, don’t we need to see what Ruf can do for us at the major league level? If you’re going to pass him up for a guy who can’t even hit his weight, why keep Ruf around? This team is not going anywhere with it’s current roster. Bring some guys up and let’s see what they can do.

after this series ticket sale may drop to a all time low.
