2013 Gameday

Gameday: (Doubleheader) Phillies (46-47) vs White Sox (36-53)

fmxwhl7ths305rlknb3oqb8j8Philadelphia Phillies (46-47) vs Chicago White Sox (36-53)

(G1) Jonathan Pettibone (5-3, 3.84) v. John Danks (2-6, 4.31)
(G2) John Lannan (2-3, 4.23) v. Hector Santiago(3-5, 3.49)

TIME: (G1) 3:05, (G2) 8:15, Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Partly  cloudy, chance of showers/t-storms
Media: Twitter and Facebook

After getting rained out last night, the Phillies and White Sox will face off in a day-night double header today. The first game, at 3:15, will have Jonathan Pettibone pitching for the Phillies and John Danks pitching for the White Sox. Game two will feature John Lannan for the Phils and Hector Santiago for the White Sox.

Chicago traded away Matt Thornton–who has been a solid left-handed bullpen arm for them–to the Red Sox yesterday. He was 0-3 with a 3.86 ERA this year. This move makes the last place White Sox, at least for this series a weaker team. It will surely be an advantage for the Phils, who seem to always have problems vs lefty relievers. Darin Ruf will play first base in at least the first game. He’s someone to keep an eye on. Chase Utley will get at least the first game off, with Kevin Frandsen playing second base.

(G1) Revere CF, Rollins SS, M. Young 3B, Brown LF, D. Young RF, Frandsen 2B, Ruf 1B, Ruiz C, Pettibone P
(G2) TBD

Your gameday beer: Corona

Why not celebrate the peak of the summer with an ice cold Corona. Nothing beats one of these on the beach, by the pool side, or while tending to a grill stacked with your favorite meats. Lime or no lime, it’s a refreshing reminder of the summer for many. Enjoy the next two months, because they’ll go by so quickly. -By Pat

Well, if this team stays true to form, they will lose 2 of 3 here.

Aye teejvee – Pettibone meltdown already. 2 consecutive innings with 2 men on base.
Then an intentional walk and let the guy just trot to second? Oh yeah.

John Danks – looking good looking tough..

Danks has looked good the past two innings. He was pure garbage the first three. The Phillies were pathetic with runners on 2nd and 3rd the first few innings. They should have at least 5 runs.

And now you have Cue Ball and Squirrel Head talking about what a great pitcher he is.

Pure crap — one for eleven with runners in scoring position. Absolute crap. I hope Amaro is
planning to rebuild and NOT compete. Who are we kidding?

Unbelievable. 3rd with less than 2 puts two innings in a row, nada. Phil’s will lose both of these games today and just end the damn season

Great job Phils! 0-5 with a runner on third last 2 innings… Chicago is probably bummed out your not in their division – they wouldn’t be in the basement then…

Looking good, well, normal Phils! 0-2 with runner on third last 2 innings – Sox are bummed you’re not in their division – then they wouldn’t be in the basement…

Seems we play to the level of the competition most of the time.

Serious question, is it possible we can release Nix? He hasn’t done anything since April and he is a huge liability at the plate. I hate him, his mug and that curly hair of his. He looks like a turtle and I want him shot.

We had this game gift wrapped twice.

Nix became obsolete when Wigginton was released. Because you could no longer say, “At least he is better than effin’ Wigginton.”

Even Cue Ball seems upset by this total failure. You know it’s bad.

Revere out with a broken foot? Every team will now know how desperate this team will be to sell off their pieces.

Nah, I don’t think they’re selling, DTD, unless they’re blown out by offers.

I suppose tonight if Sally Fields were to pitch for the Sox the Phil’s would find a way to not hit

0-9 for the day from our 4 hitter probably had more to do with today than RAJ..players we have are good enough to win.

Living in SoCal, I’m a diehard Philly Fan, those games on my xtra inning package wear me out. With Pauley’s broken ankle, its time to take a chance with my favorite minor leager, Kelly Dugan in Center Field.

Here it is 2:00 and just home from the fireworks…
Unreal.. the Sox took us to extra innings both games in game 2 we faced a guy who had an ERA over 8, pitched 12 innings, gave up 18 hits and 11 walks and nothing absolutely nothing… unreal.

    July 14, 2013 at 4:19 am

…..and Ben Revere broke his foot. Awesome.

Just when he was playing well. Shame.

brooks, I was there too last night. Jesus….what a tiring game that was! Nice to see the W but it was waaaaaay to difficult.

    A few highlights though…

    1) D Brown’s throw home to nail the runner
    2) The bullpen: 5 innings of scoreless ball…with NO mixing and matching either!
    3) Lannan looked good again
    4) Rollins’ “selective” hustle to score that run…barely
    5) M Young’s play (which can only increase his trade value)

Look….gotta win behind Cole today. Make it another series win, go into the break at .500 and then see what happens. Losing Revere is a HUGE blow but somehow they’re gonna have to find a way to make it work.

      July 14, 2013 at 8:36 am

I have to admit the fireworks display is the best I have ever seen.
The BP always gets me nervous – I think a better team would have scored against us. I mean, how many innings did the Sox lead off with a man on base or 2???
I would tell my grandson (he JUST turned 10) that allowing the first man on base will get you into trouble – inning after inning…
So sure, the stats look good the morning after but watching the relievers was painful…

  27. brooks

    July 14, 2013 at 7:07 am

Yep, just when the Phils play just good enough to get your interest going they slam the brakes on and stink up the joint…

    • schmenkman

      July 14, 2013 at 8:34 am

Certainly a frustrating game that they should have won, but losing one game is slamming on the brakes? If you said that after they lose today I might understand.

  28. Chuck A.

    July 14, 2013 at 8:32 am

And here’s something to consider, too… if the Phils would have broken through in that first game and brought home one of those runners that they stranded in the 9th or 10th the course of events would have changed and Revere wouldn’t have even been up in that situation.

Might as well see what Gillies can do. He’s been in the minors for five years mow

Looks like Gillies and Collier are the other outfielders on the 40 man roster.. I would guess it would be one of them getting the call up if needed
