I’m glad you responded, Brian, because in that “Why I Love the Phillies” deal, people were writing the entries in the comments and I thought they were wasting their time. So now I guess I know how things work here. The signs that life is passing me by multiple faster by the day.

Legendary! We’ll be passing on Charlie Manuel stories to our great grandchildren. Casey and Charlie both had a knack for torturing reporters and yet you knew what they were saying. Like taking an old country road, the journey was half the fun. And like all great managers, Charlie, you knew how to take talented players and mold them into a team of winners. You made good ballplayers into stars. Thanks for the great memories and thanks for showing how a country boy maintains humility while winning.

    Thank you Charlie.

You should have a statue built in front of the stadium.
You should be put in the wall of fame this year. Or early next year.

You are my favorite Phillie ever meaning manager player etc etc.

The team needs to get on these 2 suggestions immediately.

I bet you can still kick Eskins ass and will be able to when you are 100.

Thanks for always being enjoyable and classy and making it so no matter how much I disliked some things about the team there was always lovable Charlie no matter what.

    Enjoy a well deserved retirement.

Charlie you will be missed very much. Sorry you had to be a scapegoat for Amaro. Our hearts are broken, we love you and you will always be a PHILLIE for life in our eyes!

In 2006, about halfway through the season, the Phillies celebrated becoming the losing-est franchise in the history of professional sports with 10,000 losses. Remember that? 7 World Series appearances and two World Champion Titles in over 130 years! Charlie Manuel gave us 2 pennants and a World Series Title in 8+ years.
Charlie Manuel was “dismissed” today. He’s had only 1 losing season of the 11 full seasons he’s coached and that was at the Cleveland Indians franchise!
I’m a 4th generation Philadelphian and Philadelphia Phillies fan. Not only should he have been ALLOWED to finish out the season. He should have been escorted out of Citizens Bank park in a Golden Chariot to the cheers of adoring fans when he was ready to leave.
If you know the history of Philadelphia Sports, you know that Charlie Manuel was impressive and extraordinary.
Thank you, Charlie Manuel – Gentleman and Champion

I should start by saying that the only sport I ever played as a kid was baseball. I always loved the game and I grew up watching Phillies games with my grandfather. He is a life-long Phillies fan and we had the opportunity of seeing some games live at citizens bank park. I will always remember going to his house and watching that unbelievable 2008 playoff run and world series championship. It was a special moment that I will always remember and there is nothing that can ever take that away. He used to say, “That Charlie Manuel is a hell of a manager,” and I would agree. I moved in with him shortly after that and helped him out as best I could. Now he is in a senior citizens’ home and his health is not good. I want you to know that with or without the 2008 season, I will always remember watching Phillies games with my grandfather and I will remember you as one of baseball’s true ambassadors, a genuine person who cared about his team. Thank you Charlie for the memories!

    • Nick

      August 19, 2013 at 7:53 pm

That brought a tear to my eye. Reminds me of all the games I watched with my grandfather. I took my grandfather to his last game on his 90th birthday. Happened to be the last game of the regular season. It was so special, but sadly, he passed away not too long after that. I miss my grandfather very much and always think about the games we watched together and that final game we spent sitting next to each other. Thank you for that wonderful message you left for Charlie.

Thanks for everything, Charlie. You were the best manager in Philadelphia- ever. We wouldn’t have the WS Championship in 2008 without you. Thanks for all of the great memories in this best era of Phillies history. I look forward to the day when you come back to Citizen’s Bank Park to be inducted to the Wall of Fame. You will always have a special place in our hearts. Thank you so much, Charlie!

I am 20 years old from York, Pa and am a die-hard Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, and Sixers fan. I want to thank you for bringing a World Championship to Philadelphia! It was definitely one of my best childhood memories growing up as well as attending the parade. It’s a shame we couldn’t repeat in 2009 however I am thankful for the one you guys delivered! Wishing you the best Charlie, go phils!

    August 17, 2013 at 2:59 am

Hey Coach, I wish you more than the best. In my personal opinion I believe you have been a victim of wrong doing and piss poor management from the top AKA Amaro. You have been the role model for many managers to follow. Us Phillies fans (well at least me) will NEVER forgive Ruben Amaro for his unreasonable, irrational, unjust, selfish and hasty act on what he did today. The only one that should have been packing was Ruben Amaro Jr. He did nothing but bring the morale down amongst the team as well as the fans!! You were by far the best manager in Philadelphia Phillies history!! I am, as well as the thousands and thousands of fans are heartbroken because of Amaro’s asinine decision! I thank you for the great memories and especially the 2008 World Series. You will be MISSED and NEVER to be forgotten in Phillies Nation!! Thank You again for the memories! Good Luck Sir.

This article should be positioned as top thread for several days.

That’s just a suggestion, but I stated it in an emphatic way because I believe it to be important to let the man know how supported he is. With or without it, he’s gonna have a lot of sunlight basking on him from fans and people around the Delaware Valley for a long time, but unless you are specifically looking for this thank you article, it’s headed toward burial by sequential articles on things like gamedays, which, at this point, are pretty darned meaningless.

My well spent 2 cents, that I withdraw if the mechanics of the board actually make it as visible to people no matter where its placed.
