Karl Gelinas Signs with the Phillies to, the Phillies have signed right-handed pitcher Karl Gelinas. Gelinas, 30, last played affiliated baseball in 2006 for Triple-A Salt Lake in the Angels organization. Gelinas was suspended in 2006 for taking Stanozolol, an anabolic steroid that appears on both MiLB and MLB’s banned substance list, but would return later in the season.

Gelinas spent the last seven seasons as a starter for the independent Les Capitales de Quebec of the Can-Am Association, posting a 41-24 record with a 3.13 ERA in what is generally considered the equivalent of a High-A or Double-A league. Gelinas also appears to be very active as a CrossFit athlete.

Gelinas received an invitation to Spring Training and will train with 2003 Cy Young Award winner Eric Gagne to prepare for Spring Training with the Phillies.

I’m not sure I get the point ogf posting this without the truly essential info of where we can go out and acquire a Gelinas shirsey, especially in time for Halloween.

zi guess ya never know, and lord knows, somewhere along the line, a diamond in the rough, or a miracle level unforeseen performance is what’ll be needed for 2014, but good lord.

Now 2-3 years back, they signed a former number 1 pick, name was like Matt Snderson, who just didn’t impress enough in spring training and was cut. That guy had intruige. I assume he’s finally officially retired by now/

But this one? While ya never know, the Amaro bashers could have a field day with this..

Maybe Radio Canada sells his shirsey as a multi-faceted company. I’d guess Mitchell and Ness values its cash flow too much to invest in Gelinas attire.

So a former steroid cheater is training with a known Steroid user.

Wow. Phillies don’t have any responsibility keeping their organisation clean?

Maybe management believes the two cheaters cancel each other out.
Let’s hope so because this guy Gelinas sound like the next Koufax…
      Irving Koufax, that is.

Must be a prelude to a Nelson Cruz signing. If we can not lead in ERA, Hr’s, or SB, then why not lead in PED users.

I bet a few more of these diamond in the rough signings are to come. I dont follow other ballclubs but does it seem like Rube goes overboard with these signings every year. Has any of them ever panned out in the last five years?

PS…I do realize every club needs org depth and all..It also seems like they hold on to these guys too long.

I can’t believe people are making such an issue about this. It’s not like they just signed Jack the Ripper or Joseph Stalin. Sure the guy is probably a lousy player, but probably a lot of “prospects” are just as bad, and some might even be worse. No one seems to gripe about giving a contract to the last guy in the draft, who at age 30, will also probably be playing somewhere in Canada for an independant team, if even that.

I’m all for signing Stalin if he can play right field.
