Phillies Ink RHP Manship to our Corey Seidman, the Phillies have signed 28-year old reliever Jeff Manship to a minor league deal with an invitation to Spring Training. Manship had spent parts of four seasons from 2009 through 2012 with the Twins and 2013 with the Colorado Rockies, compiling a 6.42 Major League ERA in 116.1 IP across 52 appearances, which included 10 starts.

Manship relies on a fastball, curveball, and change-up combination, with a below-average fastball that sits near 90 MPH according to FanGraphs.

Even though a minor league deal, I find this signing perplexing. I tried to find a Bob McClure connection but I don’t think their tenures in Colorado match up.

Ahaw, now I see why they didn’t pursue Fister. They had the “stud” hiding in the bushes. Well done Rube. You dolt.

Just how old was THIS scouting report? I’m guessing 10 years, easy. Ruin Tomorrow, ladies and germs!

      Also, here’s one comparison:

      Manship through age 28: 116 IP, 6.42 ERA, 5.7 K/9, 3.4 BB/9
      Jason Grilli through age 28: 94 IP, 6.20 ERA, 4.9 K/9, 3.7 BB/9

Chances are Manship will not suddenly turn into a very good pitcher in his 30s. But you never know.

        Here’s another comparison

Threw a fastball 61mph tracked by a Juggs gun, not saying I’ll turn into a major league closer at 70yrs old, but you never know..
