Phils Avoid Arbitration with Frandsen – Phillies Nation

Phils Avoid Arbitration with Frandsen some what of a surprising move, the Phillies have announced they have avoided arbitration with infielder Kevin Frandsen. Frandsen, 31, hit just .234/.296/.341 in 278 PA after a year where he hit .338/.383/.451 in 210 PA. The move is quite surprisingly considering the presence of both Freddy Galvis and Cesar Hernandez on the club. Frandsen will make $900K in 2014 with performance incentives according to the Phillies.

I’m a very worried about you people. You clam met to get younger and this signing is fine with you. I like Frandsen but the make up of this roster he just is not a fit. I would much rather see Galvis or Hernandez on the 25 man roster to see if either could become an every day player. It is not a terrible move but it does not make this team better and there are 100 Frandsens out there

Where are Hernandez and galvis going to play everyday?? They are both blocked for at least two more years if not longer

Plus the team has a major investment in the pine tar on Frandsen’s helmet.

This makes absolutely no sense and I am stunned that everyone is happy about keeping him around. Frandsen is a great guy and I was happy that he turned his career around in 2012 but it is time to move on. He will turn 32 in May and had a down season last year. So what does Ruben do he gives him a raise. It is taking time away from Hernandez and Galvis who deserve a spot on the roster. To me Hernandez should be a lock for the roster, however with Frandsen returning he will likely be stuck in AAA for another year.
