Hamels Could Be Ready After Two More Rehab Starts

hamelsCole Hamels spoke before the home opener against the Brewers and said that he might need just two more rehab starts. Ryne Sandberg backed that, but said they would reevaluated following his second start.

Hamels said he’ll throw in Clearwater on Friday and hopes to get in five or six innings, or 80 pitches. His next start, the Phillies hope Hamels will reach 90 pitches. From there, they’ll see how he feels. Hamels himself said he feels great and is basically using this as a spring training.

This is great news as it was thought Hamels could miss the entire first month of the season after falling behind due to biceps tendinitis.

Given the Phillies history on these types of injuries, I would be surprised if 2014 wasn’t a total wash out for Hamels.

Big fan of downgrades. Huge fan. Brings out the best of bearishness in me. We have gone from low single digit wins to total washout. I guess low single digit wins was a fractional washout.

Kidding aside, I won’t let paranoia rule the day, but I do hope Cole/the club is/aren’t rushing him. But boy, is he needed. Anything to reduce the presence of the bottom portion of the rotation. Not that it’s terrible, mind you, but it ain’t good.

I posted this a few threads ago. I knew they would rush him along. This typical of the Phils though.

What constitutes “rushing”? By not sticking to the original estimate?

Really. Why don’t we just let this play out? Everything that Cole has said about the whole injury thing has been true so far. I understand the team’s history with this stuff but I trust Cole to know what’s best for his body and the team long term. Cole has been known for his honesty and I don’t think he will start stretching the truth now. I think he will be right on schedule like he said and come back strong. And, I think he is totally aware of his”contract” just in case someone wants to bring that up.
