Tonight’s Phillies Game vs Mets Postponed Due to Rain

Tonight’s finale of the Phillies’ short two-game set with the Mets has been postponed due to the rainy conditions in the region. The make up date for the game will be June 2 at 7:05 p.m., at which time all tickets that were originally for tonight’s game will be honored. Tickets may also be exchanged for a future 2014 regular season game. This is the Phillies’ second rainout this season, with the other being Tuesday Apr. 15 against Atlanta.

I think it’s the 3rd rainout including opening day, not important. What’s critical to me is the lack of wisdom of MLB schedulers in April every year. It would be so easy to avoid many of these rain / snow outs. And who’s birdbrained idea was it to give the team two scheduled days off in the same week in the worst weather month of the season? So now only 4 games this week- if we’re lucky.

      Stop asking valid questions, Lefty.

We still haven’t solved the mystery over why the Phillies are throwing games when Cole pitches.

But yes, that seems like nincompoopish scheduling on somebody’s part. Probably a league official who spent his formative Springs in the Mojave Desert.

I had the same thought about this week’s two off-days, but building the MLB schedule is not an easy process by any means:

      from here:
“But in the three-dimensional real world, you’ve got reams of team special requests, travel logistics, Collective Bargaining Agreement regulations and vats of Wite-Out. You’ve got a nightmare.

“It’s an ever-changing process, with a myriad of issues complicating the process,” says Feeney. “At its very basic, the baseball side is always conflicting with the business side.

“Everyone submits their requests, and we proceed mindful of special circumstances. We keep making revisions — thousands if you count every little thing.”

      There’s even a “30 for 30” about it:

I do wish though that there were more games in the South and West in April.

A simple solution that just can’t be that hard to accomplish.

        You’d think.
Well, there’s alway’s the prospects of a new stadium with a roof over it. This one’s probably close to needing a paint job by now, anyway – at least in need of new deodorizer blocks in the urinals.

Fortunately, they were smart enough to build in an off-day the day after the home opener, so opening day could be rescheduled while still being the first home game of the season. :/
