Why does Sandberg insist on starting Dom Brown?

Maybe because he felt a 3run HR from Brown???

    Ut oh

    3-0 mets

If the Phillies get swept here I hope people will understand what level the Phillies are.

The Mets were decimated by Bernie Madoff and are basically now a small market team playing in NY. Just look at their line up.

They really weren’t trying to win last year and they are only marginally pretending to do it this year.

There is no Bernie Madoff for the Phils.

    Its all Ruben Amaro.

This is why the NL east is so bad.

A team like the mets which is a terrible team and could with this roster on any given year lose 100 games.

    Craps on the Phillies.

  4. Andrew from waldorf

Keith Hernandez says watched Dom Brown batting practice.

    Nothing but fly balls.

    A pointless batting practice.

Keith wonders how he can be in the batting order?

    good question.

The homer fans would hate Krith he crucifies the Mets.

And the Phils have worse fundamentals and are basically worse in every aspect of the sport.

He wouldn t put a bunch of players in the all star game.

Andrew, Did you really bet on this series? Have you lost your mind man? You understand that the Mets have won 15 of the last 20 games between the teams right? I mean, you get that coming into this series the Mets had won 5 straight at CBP, no? I understand you have a life long season bet with your friend, that will end up in your favor over time, but this is not a smart gamble dude.

  6. lefty

    May 30, 2014 at 8:01 pm

I hope you win of course because I’m a fan of the Phillies and your blog friend, but can’t see any logic to this at all.

    May 30, 2014 at 8:06 pm

“Did you really bet on this series? Have you lost your mind man? ”

It’s the biggest series of all-time. Why wouldn’t somebody bet on it?

I bet myself. A conditional bet. If the Phils get their asses kicked, I bet the over on how many timeses AFW would rip Ruben Amoron.

  8. lefty

    May 30, 2014 at 8:06 pm

Last night when you were saying how big the series was I didn’t understand your motivation. I was thinkin you know, what is he talking about? It’s not even June yet. Then I read today it was about a bet. That’s just crazy. Anyway best of luck to you, let’s take the next four!

  9. Andrew from waldorf

    May 30, 2014 at 8:24 pm

    I really bet it.

I watched a game about 4 days ago that the Mets imploded in.

Followed by literally firing the guy who was their closer that day ( valverde) and their hitting coach after the game.
Like 5 minutes after the game.

    The mets are HORRIBLE

    Look at their roster.

Chris Young and Granderson are their Howard and Rollins.

but they are better than the Phillies.

    I worry about the organization.

If you are capable of having Ruben be the GM for this long.

The entire franchise is in trouble.

Maybe Keith hernandez is right and the Phillies cant even perform batting practice properly.

Now would anyone be shocked ?

    the beat goes on

    Go Phils!

    I bet 50 a game Lefty

Mets announcers noting how remarkably how lifeless the Phillies are LOL

  10. Andrew from waldorf

    May 30, 2014 at 8:27 pm

    No logic?

    the mets are Terrible

I still expect them to be the Mets.

I am betting they can be worse than a dreadful Phillies team 3 of 5

    I thought it was possible

    Maybe not lol

We thought it would be fun because both of the teams are so bad to bet it.

  11. lefty

    May 30, 2014 at 8:29 pm

I got lucky and have the home feed tonight. Keith is insufferable, I don’t care what he thinks. I do like Ron though.

But I get it you played against the cold team.

  12. lefty

    May 30, 2014 at 8:31 pm

Problem is the cold team isn’t playing the Rockies.

  13. Andrew from waldorf

    May 30, 2014 at 8:31 pm

    4-3 phils!!!

I also got home field and 2 times the pay roll.

I am gonna bet that vegas would have the Phillies slightly favored in the series.

Remember I supplement income from betting horses.
It is why I am able to analyze the team from a different prespective.
Like I would a horse in a race

The bet was not a terrible bet
    go phils!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  14. Andrew from waldorf

    May 30, 2014 at 8:33 pm

I just get a kick out of Keith being such a stickler for the fundamentals.

And the mets are almost as bad as the Phillies fundamentally so I laugh.

  15. lefty

    May 30, 2014 at 8:35 pm

I don’t know how you bet horses but the Mets have had the Phillies number for a while now. Ben hits into a DP.

  16. lefty

    May 30, 2014 at 8:39 pm

The worst games of last season were the Mets meltdown games. The bullpen and that minor leaguer that hit the home run off Paps. (I think it was paps) One exception was the game Howard hit the late game winner. But I’m sorry I really don’t think you thought that one out.

  17. lefty

  18. Andrew from waldorf

    May 30, 2014 at 8:41 pm

The mets announcers love talking about how the park is a hitters park and a band box.

We bet to have fun with the series and neither team is probably good enough to sweep anyone 5 games and its odd numbers so there will be a winner.

wright makes the catch ! lol

    • schmenkman

      May 30, 2014 at 9:49 pm

They sound really bright. Of course pretty much any park will look like a hitter’s park compared to Citi.

  19. Andrew from waldorf

    May 30, 2014 at 8:43 pm

Yes remember the 5 hour game this year that was like 1-0 with 32 batters left on base.

It was possibly the worst baseball game I have ever seen.

We both laugh out our respective teams.

It was also about actually watching these games and having a stake in them.

Knowing going in that the levl of play by both teams would be extremely low.

As I call it embracing the skell.

  20. Andrew from waldorf

    come on man

    May 30, 2014 at 8:56 pm

Granderson comes in with a .679 OPS

  25. Andrew from waldorf

    May 30, 2014 at 9:17 pm

Yes this game is living up to the skell hype.

I want 5 hours of 9 inning baseball then some extra innings.

Id have taken burnett out there and pinch hit

    The Phils lineup is depressing

    • schmenkman

      May 30, 2014 at 10:23 pm

Coming into this game, the Phils:

      1) since May 15, were tied for the NL lead in home runs
      2) since May 15, led the NL in HR per game
      3) since May 1, led the NL in BB% (walks as % of PAs)

    I love you Schenkman.

If I am ever arrested I want you defending me.

    Free baseball!!!!!!!!!!

This is more like what we expected. 3 hours 45 minutes for 9 innings

walks bad base running runners left on base

    embrace the skell

Very impressed with the arms in the Mets bullpen.

    • c. schreiber

      May 31, 2014 at 12:08 am

Nothing to be impressed with when it comes to Mets pitchers. Be unimpressed with the P’s hitters.

  37. DavidE

    May 30, 2014 at 11:34 pm

Last out by d’Arnaud was scary. Hopefully, Vic Black will be tired and the Phillies can get to him.

Regarding Ben Revere, he swung at what appeared to be a high 3-1 pitch. He has to be looking for walks as a leadoff hitter.

Here we are in the 13th inning and the only pitcher the P’s have left to pitch if Sandy has to make a move is Manshit. He finally has learned how to use Manshit. The last pitcher unused.

  41. Andrew from waldorf

    May 31, 2014 at 12:19 am

On a serious note there is nothing impressive about anything.

This is about the level of a game I was expecting in this series.

Wheeler just was good yesterday so the game wasn’t as tedious.

I knew Howard would get himself out there.

Its what he does and has been doing for at least 4 years.

They walk Utley to get to your clean up hitter lol.

    Oh well

    Go phils!!!

  42. Jacob Muran

    May 31, 2014 at 12:31 am

    Winner winner
    Chicken dinner

It came down to the mets not catching a routine fly ball.

    That’s why I made a bet Lefty.

As awful and unwatchable as the Phillies are the Mets are the closest thing going to them.

Glad I don’t have to watch it all tomorrow got stuff to do.

Tonights 464 pitches was torture enough!!

Bur the bet is back to zero with 3 games to go

    Go phils@!@@!!!

    • Lefty

      May 31, 2014 at 6:59 am

You got lucky, another error bailed us out. Don’t expect the Phils bullpen to shut them down again, I don’t care wow bad the team they play is. I wouldn’t bet a bottle cap on this bull pen right now. And a 5 game series without Lee and the recent history between these two teams, no way I make this bet. That said I hope you win the “buck 50”.

  44. DavidE

    May 31, 2014 at 1:36 am

Came down to an error in the 14th inning. I was very surprised that Ruiz wasn’t walked to set up the double play. Considering who was following, why did the Mets pitch to Chooch? THe Phils had Hernandez, Brignac and Gwynn following. It was crazy to pitch to Chooch. One good thing. I see that Terry Collins has the philosophy that he will take out a starter who isn’t pitching well. Ryne Sandberg takes the approach that he is going to get his innings out of the starter. Surprised that Burnett stayed in and pitched the 6th and 7th inning but that”s what set up the bullpen which pitched 7 scoreless innings tonight (it helps when the wind blows in). Bad move by Sandberg not to bunt Revere in the 4th inning. Even if Burnett is thrown out at 2nd, getting Revere to 1st base sets up a possible steal.

  45. Tracey

    May 31, 2014 at 1:45 am

Yes, I was at the game. Right up to the final out.

I never knew there was such a thing a the 14th inning stretch, but they had graphics prepared for it on the jumbotron and everything.

    • Lefty

      May 31, 2014 at 6:51 am

Did they just do all the 7th inning stuff twice? 🙂

      • Tracey

        May 31, 2014 at 8:19 am

Hee hee. No, it’s basically the same as the 7th inning stretch, but the on-screen graphic, instead of saying “7th inning stretch” says “14th inning stretch”

When we got to the 13th, my friend and I were joking about whether there would be a 14th inning stretch, but we didn’t really think there would be one, and we certainly didn’t think the Phillies would have a graphic already prepared for it! Then my friend and I decided that we had now officially seen enough to justify how long we had stayed, and we would leave at the end of the inning whether the game was over or not (it was already 12:15, and we had long way to go to get home). … And then things started popping and PHILS WIN!!! 😀

A Win is a Win but can anybody Tell me why revere in the 11th Swings at a 3-1 pitch as the leadoff hitter and also why he doesnt Get the take sign in That Situation. Thats just a terrible approach.

    • Lefty

      May 31, 2014 at 7:17 am

Revere’s AB there was totally inexplicable, just awful. I’m gonna take an educated guess that Sandberg did not give him the green light and he swung anyway. Even if it was a strike (doubtful) he should have looked at it anyway. Did anyone ask Ryne in the post game presser?
