For Saturday night’s ballgame, RyHo is in, and hitting 4th. The only thing that’s controllable is the fan reaction to him when he comes up for the first time. I don’t know who needed a break more, he, or the fans, but while there have been tons of negative comments about him since 3-4 days ago, it’s at least a hope that he gets a warm, if not standing ovation. What happens from there is sort of left to destiny, but it’d be nice if he gets a lot of got your back feeling as he steps in to try to show he’s got game left.

It’s almost scary to think of the reaction if he even has just this good first game out of this recent time, but it might be cool to get to that bridge.

Sandberg might be the Phillies worst manager since a young Tito Francona.

I wouldn’t try to judge that for a hefty fee. I’ll say this though…it might be awfully competitive dating back to long, long, time ago, long as I remember.

But El Ryno has interesting usage of the word platoon. Not to give him a hard time, but The Artist formerly known as Big Piece bats cleanup again for Sunday afternoon. V A LEFTHANDER. They don’t make platoons like they used to.

Game starts about the same time as the HOF proceedings. I thought they might move the HOF festivities up to earler to avoid Maddux (and Glav, I guess) slippage to a notch lower on the all time pitcher’s ability list. Kershaw is moving up by the minute at this rate. I guess I’ve seen a roll like this somewhere. Hell if I remember.

Five days left in Liquidity Season. The all-time record for team most in need of SOME sort of a selloff is a mere 5 days away from fewest trades within that category. In a way, I have to admit that there’s fair justification, or difficulty for doing some of the deals that have hit the rumor pages. But the bottom line of nothing (though 5 days still to go) is truly absolutely, incomparably remarkable. Sometimes I wonder if we’re maybe even further from a bottom than a worst nightmare could include. MAYBE a turnaround is somehow more possible than imagination allows, but maybe the bottom is further away.

This whole thing, and the continuation of the downward slope is ridiculous.

By the way, this latest Cuban free agent was scouted by 28 teams. They (Hardball Talk) didn’t list the 2 that weren’t there. I can only imagine who one of ’em was, but I guess they had their reasons. Things are so bad I see no need to apologize if the Phils weren’t one of the teams absent.

It’s Hall of Fame Sunday, the sun is shining bright. Bleep this bullbleep. More power to those looking forward to today’s ballgame.

The imagination is a wonderful thing. So is the first amendment.
