Philadelphia Phillies (47-61) at Washington Nationals (58-47)

Starting Pitchers:
WAS: Gio Gonzalez (6-6, 3.56)

A Note for Today: The Phillies stood pat at the trade deadline, but that doesn’t mean moves won’t be made into August. Every game is a showcase for players such as Antonio Bastardo, Marlon Byrd, and tonight’s starter Cliff Lee, who could end up on waivers.

Tonight, the Phillies will send Lee to the mound, who hasn’t been quite the same since his return from the disabled list.  It’s only a matter of time before Lee gets his command back.  Lee will be opposed by Gio Gonzalez, who has a 2.48 career ERA against the Phillies.

Lineup:  Revere CF /Rollins SS / Utley 2B / Byrd RF / Ruiz C/ Sizemore LF/ Ruf 1B/ Blanco 3B / Nieves C / Blanco SS / Lee P

OK…so the lineup features two catchers and two shortstops?! They may be on to something here!

What happened to Lee? It makes me wonder if he re-injured his elbow and wow, right after we could have just traded him…

    Impeccable timing if so….

I’ve seen the replay several times, and it didn’t look like anything in particular.

Looking at Cliffy in the dugout, it looks like he doesn’t know what happened either, but it must have been bad for a player to take himself out..

OK guys, come on and win it for Cliffy!

It looked to me like he looked into the dugout, tapped his elbow with his glove and said that’s it.

Yeah, that’s what the Phillies announcers are saying.

Can’t be good. There’s probably a visit to Dr. James Andrews in Cliff’s near future.

I’ll bet they wish they traded Cliff now. Sheesh could this day get worse? How many innings can Bastardo go?

No real chance to unload Lee. Because of the injury, he hasn’t had a solid game in months. His 2 games before tonight were not good. Maybe they should shut him down for the year even if he could come back in a month. If both him and Hamels are healthy and with the Phillies in 2015,

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. And McKannin’s clock is definitely stopped.

I can’t remember, did they play “werewolves of london” for Jayson Werths walkup at CBP? They do in DC.

    • Tracey

      July 31, 2014 at 8:39 pm

No, they played it for Ibanez (substitute “Raul!” for “Arooo!”)

      • Lefty

        July 31, 2014 at 8:43 pm

I knew they played it for someone.

More left elbow strain for Cliff could mean he’s done for the season. Meanwhile you hust cant walk a guy, then throw a wild pitch and not expect to pay for it.

Kevin Frandsen was never going to be a superstar but there is something likeable about him.
Danny Espinosa just won the award for worst bunt if the year. He’s about to lose his job too.

Around the league, Rubin Jr. is known as the “Philadelphia Turd Merchant.” That is why no teams want to make deals with him……just a thought.

Anybody else hear Chucklehead McCarthy say that he couldn’t believe the Astros would trade a pitcher as good as Cosart earlier in the game?

    17 hits, good win.
