MAG Activated, Adams to 60-Day DL

Cuban acquisition Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez has been activated from the 60-day disabled list and will report to Double-A Reading. To ensure space on the 40-man roster, the Phillies transitioned RHP Mike Adams to the 60-day DL. Adams had found success in 2014 (2.12 ERA in 19 games) but is recovering from right rotator cuff inflammation. The 35-year old may have been a trade chip for the Phillies prior to the deadline but now cannot be activated until August 6.

I don’t wanna get too long winded on this, or sound kinda red neckish, but this MLB paternity leave deal should maybe be re-examined.

This is based on the assumption that Dom Brown’s paternity leave absence is based on a child to a woman that he’s not married to. If he is married, then this comment is null and void.

The policy itself’s pretty cool, and as it’s darn close to 20 years old now, the chance for refinement has been in place.

And I could be wrong about this, I mean WAY wrong, but I don’t recall EVER hearing of a player taking it in a non marital situation.

Marriage is a tricky thing these days under any circumstance, but some policies, by both the government, and private companies reflect respect for it as an institution, and that’s probably a good idea. So if a dad to be isn’t married, I don’t know that the same privileges should be extended to him as they are to a married player.

Chances are that some non marrieds have been granted leaves. I mean the policy is, as mentioned nearly 20 years old, so Brown, if he’s not married, might not be such a lone example. I just don’t recall any.

It’ll be interesting to see how Brown plays after this deal is over. Interesting being an interesting word choice.

So if you’re not married and having a child you don’t deserve to have paternity leave??

Maternity leave should apply to everyone because there have been large numbers of fathers who have taken on ALL the responsibility of the child after the actual birth. Many have served as birth coaches to help the woman through.

There are certainly a lot of unwed MOTHERS who get leave; why shouldn’t that apply to fathers, too?

        Absolutely agree with you George

        Very good points.

It’s really a totally separate issue, and societal as a whole, but considering the validity of the point(s), it’s kind of a shame it doesn’t do much to solve the problem (I mean, I THINK, as in I am guessing) it’s a problem, but maybe the world’s in a long term evolutionary process on families. All the different types of relationships between sexual preferences and racial preferences these days, who knows what the world looks like by the time the Phils are contenders again.. Best to accept it rather than get caught up in old ways.

I’d wanna kill somebody going this far off subject wasting 2 seconds of my valuble time reading it, but the counterpoint required acknowledgement. Good work.

End of the day, full leave does make more sense than my initial reaction.

Adams certainly didn’t work out. I thought his signing was questionable due to his thoracic outlet surgery and his age, and felt two years at however many millions he got was an overpay. Sure, he was good when he pitched, but the front office should have known he was a huge gamble.

Completely agree w you @bacardipr05 and @george on the waste of the Adams signing. Another terrible Amaro sign.
