Can’t we just get somebody who can hit?

Please explain the last sentence. What does the “200k out of $900k coming from a previous season’s collective pool” mean, and does that say Gamboa will only count for $700k against the Phils 2014 international pool ?

From my understanding, and I could be wrong, the $700K base salary does not count against the bonus pool. Any additional money, in this case, $200 K, counts against the bonus pool.

Isn’t Freddy Galvis the very definition of a “light-hitting, plus-glove defender”? Do they project Gamboa to someday develop offensively?

I think with Gamboa getting a #15 rating at age 16, a team shouldn’t be faulted for taking a chance. Maybe he’ll turn out to be another Galvis, but he’ll have a number of years to gain some hitting ability.

    “Light hitting”
Sometimes it seems that building a winning team is just too hard. I’m tired of reading about sub-700 OPS prospects. Yes, I know he’s 16 years old. It’s just frustrating. But maybe he’ll be another Bowa.

Pay no attention to me. It’s becoming a long summer.

I know it’s a different acquisition process, but I’d be interested in this guy:

I don’t trust our major league scouts, or our minor league scouting dept. ever since Arbuckle and Lamar left , first Montgomery should be replaced by John Middleton then get rid of the GM and all of the major league and minor league scouting departments and all of the minor league player development coaches.then raid and hire scouts and player development personnel from the Braves the Cardinals and the Marlins will be money well spent. Then maybe we will have a contender in five years.
