Report: Bastardo Hottest Phils Name in Rumors

According to CSN Philly’s Jim Salisbury, lefty set-up man Antonio Bastardo is the name he hears the most popping up in trade rumors.

Bastardo, 28, makes $2 million this year and has one more year of team control available. Bastardo is on pace to hit a career-high in innings pitched and appearances while improving his strikeout rate by about one K per inning pitched and lowering his WHIP back under his career average.

Now we’re talking. This is as good a “sell high” opportunity as we’ll get. Pap’s going to cost us a shitload of salary money even if we get rid of him, but getting anything of value for Bastardo would be an excellent move.

Not enough to redeem RAJ’s reign of error, of course.

      Absolutely correct.

I’d agree if we could get something real. If it’s just another run of the mill prospect, why bother?

    We’ll always have 2011, Tony.

let’s get something of value. I hope Ruben isn’t anxious to pull the trigger and settles for a 30 year-old player whose best years are behind him. Moreover, this would be an opportune time to eat some of Papelbon’s salary and move Bastardo into the closer’s role.

It’s nice that they have Diekman and Hollands. Years past, losing a guy like AB would be more of a hardship.

Diekman, Hollands, Giles and DeFratus. …The hopefully very successful future of this pen….

        I’d still keep AB

I meant from the left-handed side, but absolutely – they have some decent looking guys from both sides.

I would keep him to unless we get a real good prospect. Not some C level or some 35 yo player who as mentioned before good years are behind him already…Just dotn trust Rube at this point..
