Against deGrom? Why do you do this to yourself? Lol Howard is the only one that hit him last time! You better be rooting hard in your skiveees tonight.

    1 hit so far.

    That’s for both teams. Combined.

And we are in the 4th inning.

Looks like the Mets and Phillies are working on another instant classic.

Another tape to be sent to Cooperstown after the game.

  11. Andrew from waldorf

    August 29, 2014 at 7:55 pm

    On the bright side.

The last ( and only) Mets no hitter by Santana basically ended his career.

Maybe they will leave Degrom in for 175 pitches and he ends his career too.

He does have a no hitter going

Mets are Keith Ron Darling and Cohen.

First and second no outs and the Phillies never get to third base.

    The story of my life.

    • schmenkman

      August 29, 2014 at 8:24 pm

The Phillies are slightly above average in moving runners from second with no outs.

    • Lefty

      August 29, 2014 at 8:24 pm

Yeah but on the bright side, they have a hit. Maybe your 20% pal will give you points for that. Yeah, that’s not gonna happen.

  17. Andrew from waldorf

Omg was that stupid. Chooch doesnt bunt. Sizemore saves the day though.

    • Chuck A.

      August 29, 2014 at 8:50 pm

L A on the radio said he liked the idea of him bunting in that situation. He sure didn’t execute, though.

  23. Andrew from waldorf

    August 29, 2014 at 8:48 pm

My buddy who is the Mets fan says Byrd is the best player on either roster.

Id tend to agree with him as far as our better record bet goes.

He is a player you want on your side.

  24. Andrew from waldorf

    August 29, 2014 at 8:50 pm

We have also discussed that both teams are so dysfunctional that if you combined both rosters.

Youd have like a 275 million pay roll and we both agree you still would not contend.

Cherry picking the best players from both squads.

  25. Lefty

    August 29, 2014 at 8:53 pm

If I was starting a team there are a number of young Muts players I might be interested in. Darnaud, Duda, Lagares right off the top of my head.

  26. Andrew from waldorf

    August 29, 2014 at 8:53 pm

I thought it was stupid too but Stairs said was the right play.

I guess if Ruiz had gotten it down it would be 2-1 phils right now.

I am not sold on Sandberg but really with this team you cant hold it against him.

  27. Lefty

    August 29, 2014 at 9:00 pm

My thing with bunting is that you should only do it with someone that doesn’t have the skill to move runners in other ways. If chooch doesn’t have that ability with his bat control, what was he doing in the 2 hole so often this year? I stand by my original statement, dumb idea giving away an easy out.

    • Chuck A.

      August 29, 2014 at 9:03 pm

I agree but the two ex- major leaguers beg to differ.

    • wbramh

      August 30, 2014 at 12:46 am

I hate the sacrifice bunt. Always have even before the era of SABRmetrics.

According to Baseball Prospectus, “the Run Expectation with a runner on first and nobody out is higher than it is when there’s a runner on second and one out, the situation usually created by a sac bunt..”

      • George

        August 30, 2014 at 12:30 pm

I totally agree. The only time to bunt is when a pitcher or Michael Martinez comes to the plate, because they’re going to make an out anyway.

only 60 pitches in the 6th so Domo can DP & Ryne o go to an overworked bullpen

    • Lefty

Yikes a tight spot. Andrew’s money rests on the shoulders of Justin DeFratus.

    Not DeFratus fault

    • Tracey

      August 29, 2014 at 9:14 pm

Sizemore’s fault. The inning should have been over on that play.

  39. Lefty

    August 29, 2014 at 9:15 pm

Well lefties hit this guy better than righties, so with 4 in a row you gotta wonder what the Muts manager is doing. Maybe this is our inning.

    Ok Ladies and gentlemen.

    I am out of here.

I have been burnt many times now!!!

    this sucks

    • Double Trouble Del

      August 29, 2014 at 9:54 pm

Sandberg has not had the greatest roster but he really has managed poorly this year. Maybe there was a reason that even though he was a poster child for the Cubbies, he couldn’t get a shot in their system. Then again this stint, as so aptly described by Francona, this may be his mulligan.

  42. Andrew from waldorf

    August 29, 2014 at 9:59 pm

In honor of Lefty I have already individually bet tomorrows game.

Id rather not bet on Burnett sunday. And I know Colon has 3 wins vs the Phillies already.
    If not now then when?

    All or nothing tomorrow.

a must win for the Phillies.

    • Lefty

      August 29, 2014 at 10:18 pm

Is there a particular reason you like giving this guy your money? Sunday they face Dillon Gee who they have at times beat up on, and that’s the game you don’t want to bet? Tell you what, give me the guy’s number, and I’ll take Burnett coming off of his best start as a Phillie against Gee.

  43. Andrew from waldorf

    August 29, 2014 at 11:00 pm

This is my last go around on individual game bets.

We see what happens I have won the better record every year except for last year.

and I am still hoping to win this years.

The Mets are not much minus Murphy.

  44. George

    August 30, 2014 at 12:02 am

Can’t blame it all on Sizemore. Diekman put three men on all by himself; the hitters didn’t even have to do anything but stand in the batters box. One or two of them were bound to score eventually. Then there’s the issue of Sandberg’s pitching decisions. I wouldn’t have pulled a guy cruising through six innings for a pinch hitter doing as poorly as Brown. If they were still behind, maybe. But not when they’re in a tie game. To me, it would have been better to have Buchanan bunt, then a real .300 hitter would have been up. No wonder Revere doesn’t have very many RBI when he never gets a chance to hit with runners in scoring position.

I’ll give Sandberg the benefit of the doubt for a little while longer. I’m not sure Buchanan would, or even should. No wonder he’s bitched before.

    • schmenkman

      August 30, 2014 at 4:58 am

Tough not to blame Sizemore. Yes, Diekman got them in the mess, but DeFratus then got them out of it. Except that the ball was dropped.

      • schmenkman

        August 30, 2014 at 5:00 am

Though agree, in that you can’t blame it ALL on Sizemore.

      • Chuck A.

        August 30, 2014 at 7:38 am

And I would also agree that Buchanan should have bunted in that situation. Tough to know what would have happened in the sequencing that would have followed but I don’t think pulling a pitcher with 60ish pitches through 6 innings in a tie game is the right move either.

However…..Sizemore HAS to catch that ball.

  45. George

    August 30, 2014 at 12:26 pm

Any time a player makes a fielding error, the ball should have been caught. Unfortunately, no one is perfect, and those imperfections always seem to happen at the worst possible moment.

I still can’t bring myself to blame the loss solely on Sizemore, who most of the time is a huge upgrade defensively from Brown. Diekman didn’t do his job, and the offense didn’t do theirs, either. Plus, the in-game management could easily be questioned.

    • Lefty

      August 30, 2014 at 1:42 pm

I truly wish I’d said something last night when this happened. But there was a ball hit to Sizemore earlier in the game that seemed to befuddle him as well, but he caught that one. I remember thinking- sheeesh, that former gold glover looks like Dom Brown out there.

They’re humans and sometimes they just have a bad day.
