Phillies blow late lead to lose 5-4

The Phils were looking to build off last night’s 1-0 thriller with the Arizona Diamondbacks coming to town for Father’s Day weekend. The D-Backs struck first off Phillies’ starter Aaron Nola in the fourth inning after Daniel Descalso hit an RBI groundout and Jeff Mathis singled to center make the score 2-0. The Phils would score four unanswered, with Maikel Franco putting the Phils in front 4-2 with a two-RBI double to left center in the sixth. Nola would relinquish the lead immediately in the next half inning by allowing a Gregor Blanco two-run home run and a Jake Lamb sacrifice fly, as it proved to be the difference in a 5-4 D-Backs win. Nola surrendered nine hits and five runs in six-plus innings. The bullpen got three clean innings of relief from Pat Neshek, Joaquin Benoit, and Edubray Ramos.

Jerad Eickhoff is still seeking his first win of the season as he’ll oppose D-Backs’ right-hander Zack Godley in a 4:05 start time tomorrow afternoon.
