BREAKING: Phillies trade Neshek to Colorado for three minor leaguers

According to multiple reports, the Phillies have traded reliever Pat Neshek plus cash considerations to the Colorado Rockies for minor-league infielder Jose Gomez, right-handed pitcher J.D. Hammer and right-handed pitcher Alejandro Requena.

Gomez, the top name in the trade, was ranked 20th in the Rockies’ system heading into the season, according to John Sickels at Minor League Ball. A 20-year-old in the Class A South Atlantic League, Gomez is hitting .324/.374/.437 in 318 at bats. He’s known for a solid contact tool with average defensive capability.

Hammer, a 23-year-old in advanced A-ball, has a 5.25 ERA with 18 strikeouts and nine walks in 12 appearances. And Requena, also 20 and playing in the South Atlantic League, has a 2.85 ERA with 97 strikeouts and 25 walks in 19 starts.

Neshek was one of the Phils’ more valuable players this season, putting up a 1.12 ERA with 45 strikeouts in 40.1 innings. He was the team’s lone all-star this year, and was figured to be traded by Monday’s non-waiver deadline.
