Rhys Hoskins is ready for the show

Rhys Hoskins went 1-for-2 with a single, and Scott Kingery went 0-for-1, in the 2017 Futures Game during all-star Sunday in Miami.

Both are having outstanding years, with Kingery’s 24 home runs second in the minor leagues, and Hoskins’ .961 OPS among tops in the minors.

Hoskins may be ending his minor league journey. The Lehigh Valley first baseman says he’s ready to reach the majors. There’s an obstacle to that, however: Tommy Joseph.

So what’s going to happen? A Joseph trade? A Hoskins trade? Something else?

Something has to happen soon.

I love the discussion about how Hoskins is “blocked” by Joseph, as well as the one surrounding what to do about Kingery given Cesar Hernandez’s presence. The Phils are on pace to be, perhaps, the worst club in all of baseball over the last half-century. You mean to tell me that anybody on that roster has the ability to block a promising minor leaguer? That’s ridiculous.

      Agree.
The only jobs that should be safe belong to the ball girls and the scoreboard operator.

Hoskins is on fire, but that’s what the Phillies need right now. They need star power and fire power added to the lineup to give them a jolt. Personally I really wish we could find a way to keep both Joseph and Hoskins, but I feel that Joseph may be going on to a DH role possibly in Boston, including Neshek since Boston have shown interest in him.

The whole “blocked” thing is a code for “we’re afraid if we bring this guy up too soon, he’ll crash and burn and end up a worthless pile of parts like Dom Brown!” Hoskins is playing well in AAA, he’s showing that he’s ready for the show. Brock Stassi looked great in Clearwater, not so much in Philly. Tommy Joseph had a ton of potential, but he seems to have stalled out and is now literally just a roadblock in the system. Kingery just got promoted to AAA a few weeks ago. I know the fanbase is excited about him, but let’s see how he handles the next level for a few more weeks before we start clearing out a locker for him at CBP.
