Phillies Nation is starting a book club!
From time-to-time, we will propose a baseball book and encourage fans to read along with us. The first book we’ve selected is Macho Row: The 1993 Phillies and Baseball’s Unwritten Code by local historian William Kashatus. If you haven’t already read it or are too young to remember the 1993 team, you’re in for a treat. As the immortal Harry Kalas put it, “This wacky, wonderful bunch of throwbacks has won the National League pennant!”
Each book reading period will culminate in a live panel discussion that we will record and archive on Phillies Nation as a podcast. On Monday, October 30th at 6:30pm we will host a discussion on Macho Row at Holy Family University in Northeast Philly (room: ETC auditorium).
We have an exciting group of panelists confirmed for the event:
- Mitchell Nathanson – professor of sports law at Villanova
- Tommy Greene – pitcher on the 1993 Phillies team and current broadcaster on NBC Sports Philadelphia
- Michael Sadowski – Phillies Nation staff writer who will offer the fan’s perspective on the season
- Brian Michael – Phillies Nation CEO and Sports Management-Marketing coordinator at Holy Family University will be the moderator
We hope you are able to participate in the book reading and panel discussion (audience members will have time to ask questions towards the end). This will be a unique opportunity to learn about Phillies history from both primary and secondary sources; but most of all, it should be a lot of fun!
