Will Marlins trade Giancarlo Stanton? And to Phillies?

Here’s another Giancarlo Stanton rumor.

It’s time for a daily news report …

The Stanton Derby

This is the news right now in Phillies land, that the Phils could be interested in a Giancarlo Stanton deal. It seems possible the Marlins will deal the elite slugger, and according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports (who seems to be the only writer with these stories), the Phils have been active in asking about Stanton.

The other teams who’ve called a lot? Our best friends: the Cardinals and Giants.

So let’s just say this: Every team is interested in Giancarlo Stanton. He possesses incredible value, he’s likely the National League MVP, and he can transform this lineup from about-average to above-average.

That said, he’s pricey as all get out, so not many teams will really want to engage. That dwindles it down to a handful, of which the Phils will be among them.

So these are rumors we’ll keep hearing.

Otherwise it’s a slow time. The postseason has begun and our guys are taking vacations. But the 2009 Phillies of Playing the Rube are not resting. Listen to our OOTP podcast when it drops later today. You’ll get laughter, joy, pain and tears in a burn that feels like it’ll last all lifetime.

An outfield of Herrera, Williams/Altherr and Stanton would be enticing. But the deal only works if the Phillies part with much more cash than players. The Marlins will want some of the young players the Phils have and they need more of these, not less.

The Phillies can be a playoff contender next year with the right moves. If I was the Gm this offseason I would sign Eric Hosmer to a FA deal 300 Avg & 25 to 30 Hr’s in the bank. Then trade Alther, Franco, Herrera for & prospects as needed for Stanton. Line up and batting order would then be 2nd Kingery, CF Williams , 1st Hosmer, RF Stanton, LF Hoskins, C Alfaro, 3rd Crawford, SS Galvis, Cesar can be utility and play 2nd when there is a lefty pitcher & Kingery can move to 3rd. Trade Joseph for pitching & then try to buy a bullpen. Sign veteran guys like Neshak. And also sign some veteran starters to low year small money deals hopefully get lucky with one.

I believe he’ll be a Giant in the end, but giving the Marlins, Hererra, Galvis and Moniak for Stanton seems pretty good to me.

There is no way he’s headed to the Giants, they have one of the worst farm system in all of baseball with only one top 100 prospect and no young talent one the MLB roster that the Marlins would require for this trade, Phillies have 6 top 100 and the Cards have 5. It will probably take at least 2 top 100 prospects and a younger MLB player plus a boat load of cash to get GS…. both the Phils and Cards have top 10 farm systems, young mlb starters and the cash to pull this off, Giants don’t…

No way i think about trading Moniak . The potential for him is too great. IMHO

No thanks I don’t think he can pitch. Whoever said trade Odubel Galvis and Moniak forgot to mention we are only interested if they throw in Jose Urena

I’d definitely take him. Pairing him with Hoskins would be huge for next year but even bigger in getting a guy like Manny Machado to come over next winter to play the hot corner in Philly. I’d send them a package of Alterr/Herrera, Moniak, Hernandez, Joeseph and another good prospect with some cash.

Before people freak out – Moniak is still 2-3 years away and Miami is going to demand a top prospect I the deal. I’d rather keep JP, and Sanchez is our future ace and we need the arms more right now. Williams is young, Alterr/Herrera (Whoever doesn’t get traded) is young and Stanton will be in RF for at least 5-7 years. So there’s really no place for a Moniak, even in a couple of years unless you get rid of other players down the road. Also have Hasely who’s going to push the bigs in 1-2 years too. We’re so deep in the OF there’s just too many names right now and they’re all young.

You just have to look at the back end of the Pujols and Cabrera contracts to know why this would be crazy.
