I’ll take the under on the 3 guesses at Pivetta’s ERA. Fingers crossed. 4.2 or lower.
TM has DeGrom for the CY. I keep seeing Syndergaard amongst pro NYers. When K’shaw is dead, I’ll pick against him.
All 3 predictors went elsewhere than Cole Hamels with their deadline trade picks. Whether the Phils get him, I don’t know, but I expect the Rangers to be gone from realistic post season races, and Cole to be dealt.
Brewers get respect as a playoff contender with these picks. Did they solve their starting pitching enough to get there? Maybe, but iffy.
No selections for Altuve as AL MVP. Tough chore with Trout around even though he doesn’t win all the time as he should, but no Altuve support? All I’ll say is I don’t think he’s had his career year yet.

I wanted to say Thor for Cy Young, but I feel he’s good for a 4-5 start absence every year. Kershaw is amazing and easy to pick, but I can also see him being shut down more often, etc. The Mets NEED their pitchers to do well; one will step up, and I’m giving it to deGrom.
Yeah, I don’t see us getting Hamels. I see a measured move for a young, controllable pitcher. Plus Hamels’ peripherals scare me.
I get the Milwaukee hype but I don’t love the pitching. That bullpen is an experiment in scary (also I just looked back and saw I wrote in the Brewers as a wild card … which wasn’t my intention! I’m giving the second to the Mets [they’re being slightly underrated]).
Altuve is also amazing, but as long as Mike Trout plays baseball, he gets my vote.

Altuve was my #2 choice for AL MVP. My thinking was there were times last year when, if you can believe it, a certain player on the Astros seemed to go cold or get hurt. Altuve never did and had to carry some major weight last year. I think this is the year no one goes cold on the Astros and he isn’t overshadowed as much as seen as a very good cog in a offensive machine.

It’s largely hard to believe the Stros collectively avoid any cold spells, BUT, that is one RIDICULOUSLY talented team, so we’ll see. I looked at a line on AL MVP faves, and Trout is an overwhelmingly overwhelming favorite.
Trout +150
Altuve +500
Correa Lindor Stanton +1000
Judge +1600
At +2000, a guy I think might be a sleeper in all this, JD Martinez, along with Donaldson, Machado, and Betts.
Hoskins is the only Phil given a price on the NL side at +5000. What the hell, might not be a bad play at that price.
Sometimes, usually utility types win 2, maybe 3 World Championships in a row on different teams (Chris Long, LaGarrett Blount, Zobrist (I think), definitely 1 other MLBer within the last few years whose name escapes me…not a frontliner, seems he played on KC in ’15. That’s an awesome accomplishment, but can you imagine winning MVPs in consecutive years on 2 different teams? Hard enough to repeat as an MVP, let alone what Stanton has a shot at off his NL MVP.

I can’t believe the other writers didn’t pick Acuna. I don’t want it, but this guys is going to destroy us.
Ken Bland
March 28, 2018 at 3:16 pm
I haven’t seen Acuna play, but from all indications, between he and Albies, that is going to be one dynamic 1-2 punch. Guess I should say should be, though Albies has been around long enough to glow about with decent confidence. Braves-Phillies games should be quite good this year with young talent against young talent.
